which is your favorite cartoon from when it was in its prime

probably a repost, but i did some searching and found sqwat
so, repost nazis, why dont you go download some jessica simpson pics, and occupy yourself

In their prime:

#1 - The Simpsons
#2 - Futurama
#3 - Family Guy
#4 - South Park

Now:

#1 South Park
#2 Family Guy
#3 The Simpsons

South Park has maintained their level, but the Simpsons and Family Guy have had HUGE dropoffs.

with all the talk of futurama in these forums, im surprised it hasn't gotten more votes
i think it is definitely the most intelligent of all these shows, and i've gotten the most enjoyment out of watching it

I'm a huge Simpsons fan, and its hard to argue the show's longevity and how good it was for so long. In their prime? I'm still tempted to say Simpsons, but possibly Famly Guy.

Agreed on first list, fixed second list for my opinion.

Well, back in the day Simpsons ruled and nothing came close. Ok, South Park did. But now, Simpsons are not the same. It doesn't feel the same. I am liking South Park more and Family Guy is just weird. They throw lots of random stuff in there that has little or no relevence to the actual content, but I guess thats part of its charm.

So in the past:

1. Simpsons
2. South Park
3. Family Guy
4. Futurama (never really watched it, only saw like an episode or two a few weeks ago on cartoon network)

Now:

1. South Park
2. Family Guy
3. Simpsons
4. Futurama

Another cartoon that is funny but with a different twist is the Boondocks. It is not funny funny but in a deep, serious kind of way, it is a very funny and great show. Too bad its not been on in a while.

That IS what makes Family Guy great. They make you think they're going one way with a joke and then BAM they're off in left field.

One of my favorite lines:
Dennis Miller: I don't want to go on a rant, here, but America's foreign policy makes about as much sense as Beowulf having sex with Robert Fulton at the first battle of Antietam. I mean when a neo-conservative defenestrates it's like Raskolnikov filibuster deoxymonohydroxinate...
Peter: What the hell does rant mean?

That being said, South Park has some hillarious episodes (gotta love Towelie) Family Guy has some hillarious moments, and the Simpsons was good for and in it's time which ended quite awhile ago.

Futurama, hands down in my opinion.

Well, we know where you stand on this already. 😉 You even posted wave after wave on the subject! Good work!

While Simpsons, in its prime, practically revolutionized the genre of dramatic cartoons, keep in mind that the writers of Futurama were of the same bunch.

That said, for me, The simpsons has no equal, in its prime, as it pioneered realistic character traits unlike anythign I had ever seen.

Humanistic characters such as Krusty the alcoholic and smoking clown, Moe the bitter bartender, Mr. Burns the belligerent and yet childlike emperor of the town, and Homer, the homely idiot with undying love for his family, have made me biased.

I had never seen such rich, such developed, such truely viral and realistic portrayals of humanity, that even after lauding Groening incredibly entertaining and absolutely brillaint "futurama," I can help but fall back on the memories of the cartoon show that helped shape my mind.

Futurama is excellent, practically genius, but the simpsons is the undisputed king of the philosophical dramatic comedy.
