Right, I don't either... but there are some good episodes past season 9 and I'm attempting to not waste my time going through the bad ones.

wow quite a bit of Season 10 sucks
Honestly season one wasn't that good in my opinion. They were still forming the characters and finding out what worked for them. Season 2 is when it really started to get good.
The best golden era episode is Marge versus the Monorail. A close second is the Frank Grimes episode. Or "Grimey" as he LIKED to be called.
Definitely this; the first season is actually kind of painful to watch now. At the time I thought it was amazing, but not now.

I love, or is it hate?, to go back and watch the first few seasons of any beloved TV series. It's almost always a "WTF, wow they have matured!" educing sensation. It's amazing how apparent the changes are to all the major characters in any long running series. You can see the actors slowly finding a grove with their character that they eventually comfortably slip into. It isn't usually till some ways into the 2nd, or sometimes 3rd, season of any series that you can go "Bingo that's the character I know and love".
The guest stars really suck the funny out of the show.
The guest stars really suck the funny out of the show. It's like they use it as an excuse to not write any jokes assuming we'll just think the stars being with the Simpsons is funny by itself.
I will generally agree to that. Although they've had guest stars all the way through the history of the Simpsons, they really started relying on them after the 90's way too much. By far my favorite guest star episode is Mr. Burns' Son, with Rodney Dangerfield.
"Hey, if this stuff's too good for ya, I've got some crap!"
"Oh, what's to tell? I was at the orphanage till I was 18, then I got my job at a souvenir stand.....Oh, and once I saw a blimp!"
Homer: This is the kidnapper. Do you miss your son?
Burns: Yes I am missing one son! Return it immediately!
Smithers: Well, I hate to break it to you, Larry, but if Mr. Burns ever wants to see a stranger, he will observe him through a powerful telescope.

Not one of my favorite episodes, but the episode where Homer is retelling the story of Lisa's first word, in the flashback, he tells baby Lisa that he's started a college fund at the Lincoln Savings & Loans Bank. I LOL'd when I heard that line.
Harvey: So I'll just put my savings in this diversified index fund. Safe and sound.
Phil Ken Sebben: It's 1985, Birdman, wake up! The smart money is going into S&L's... like that one!
Harvey: You mean Lincoln Savings & Loans?
Phil Ken Sebben: Right, S&L's are unkillable. Ever seen It's a Wonderful Life? Even that Bailey bastard couldn't screw it up! ...And the rest on gift certificates!
