I just got this online and am now looking for a small harddrive to install it in my puter and start trying to expand my mind... What are your thought on it? Good, bad, or otherwise.. and where is a good place or a good publication I can get to start learning this new world out side of windows?...I have never even thought about using this but it seems that alot of peeps are so I want to try it and see if a normal joe can use it well and enjoy it?

If you cannot find a spare HD you could try instead one fo the liveCD versions of Linux like Knoppix.

MEPIS is a live CD. You don't need a spare HD to try it out...just a CD-ROM. You have the option to install to a hard drive once you've booted into the KDE desktop.

I think MEPIS is very good and one of my favorite distros. I used it for a while, but prefer PClinuxOS (also a live CD...I highly recommend it).

Yup, it's amazing at some of the Linux stuff available as downloadable Live CDs. Here's a few of my personal favorites.

Damn Small Linux and Puppy Linux - lightweight Live CDs only 50mb or so in size...great to use on mini CDRs and for older systems
MEPIS / PClinuxOS / VectorLinux
