You can save precious milliseconds by instead of typing in 25 seconds (for example) in your microwave, do 22 instead. Or 33 instead of 30, 55 instead of 60. This tip could save you maybe a minute of during your entire life. But still, a minute is a minute :)

Most people know that when you use a drop-down box, you can type a letter and the list will jump down to the items which start with that letter. But the first matching entry is now the last one shown in the drop-down list, and you have to scroll down further to find the specific one you want. At some point I realized it was better to type the letter AFTER the one you're looking for, so the entries from the previous letter are likely to be already displayed.

hahaha. I often spend the time required to "prepare" food for the microwave (get it out of container, put it on plate, whatev) thinking about what the minimum number of button presses would be to get my food hot but not gross. (So not just pressing like 10:00).

edit: also, say 45 can go faster than 44 if you use two different fingers to press '4' and '5'. Don't punch them individually, but instead in a smooth motion.

When picking up or pulling a really large banner, the plane will only climb doing steep turns.
It is totally counterintuitive to everything you are taught as a pilot.

If you have a hard time determining which months has 31 days, you can count the knuckles and the valleys, for lack of a better word. Make a fist with both hands and put them side by side so that the two index finger knuckles are next to each other. Don't count the thumb knuckle.

Starting with the knuckle on your pinky work towards the other end. So it would go:

Jan - knuckle
Feb - valley
Mar - knuckle
Apr - valley
May - knuckle
Jun - valley
Jul - knuckle
Aug - knuckle (Its knuckle because you're crossing over to the hand)
Sep - valley
Oct - knuckle
Nov - valley
Dec - knuckle

30 days hath September, April, June, and November. All the rest have 31, excepting February which is just plain fucked :^D

I always said it as '30 days past September...', but your version makes a whole lot more sense. Of course I learned it back when I was 6 or something, so I never thought about it much.

To remember the difference between concave and convex, the concave one goes inward, like a cave (con-cave)

Stalagmites have an M, like mountain. And much like a mountain, they point up. Stalactites are the other ones.

What is odd though is that I never learned and cutesy tricks for remembering how to tie a tie or to tie my shoes, and I never learned the state capitals in school. It was something that was done in 6th grade in my area, and I went to a private middle school where they didn't teach that for some reason.

Re: the peeling eggs thing. How easy it is to peel eggs is more related to their freshness, not the salt in the water. You can't peel a hard boiled freshly laid egg. Figured that one out on my own.

Cooking a delicious steak in a pan IS possible (if you have one with a lid you can use in the oven.)

Frying homemade fries twice makes them twice as delicious.

Gran Mariner is the nectar of the gods, not Mountain Dew as I previously believed.

Forty really isn't that old.

I hear ya. I started when I was 15 because one of my buddies worked there and the manager smoked dope. I ended up working my way up the chain and stayed until I was 21. The hours sucked but the people were great, I learned a ton (especially about management) and made some lifelong friends.

That being said...I could never work in food again.

yep, same here (less the dope). Met a lot of girls (our pizza joint had a large seating area as well), a lot of drunks and got as much pizza as I wanted. Plus, like you I still keep in contact with some of the guys I worked with 20 years later.
