Simple scanning program with basic options? (For mother)

Hey guys, I need a scanning program that will be able to use most scanners and just give the sort of basic options like DPI and such, and after all that is set all it requires is a button press or two (in the program) and conversion to a few popular file types (jpg/png/etc).

It would also help if cropping off the extra space could be done in the program simply as well.

My mom wants to scan a lot of old pictures but isn't really tech savvy at all and I don't want her to end up with low quality large filesize images using the software that comes bundled.

So is there anything like this? Free or not, I don't care.

Thanks.

My choice is Irfanview. More flexible in the SAVE AS department than Picasa. It uses Acquire and Twain with any scanner. Twain is the scanner's lingua franca.

Windows Live Photo Gallery is free, offers some decent organizational options, and is pretty easy to use. (http://download.live.com/photogallery)

Irfanview is free as well, but I wouldn't say it's quite as user friendly, it depends on the tech-skills of your mother.

I'd say go Live Photo Gallery or Picasa, as both have online sharing options which will make it easier for her to share them with relatives.

Well she doesn't need to share them with anyone.

As far as her tech skills, she can remember a series of commands to click (File>XXX>fdghfkjhg>etc).

And I tried Picasa; er, I think a program that's just made for scanning only would be best. I'll check out the other ones you guys recommended.

Well, I didn't like Gallery either, same as Picasa; irfanview just uses the scanning programs that are alresdy installed/in windows, so not much point in that.

The scanner and camera wizard seems perfect. I can set up the custom options, and all she has to do from then on is make sure it's selected, preview, select the area with the picture, scan, back, and repeat. Seems easy enough.

Thanks for the help guys.
