With the amount of rice I have sitting around (white and jasmine), I was wondering if anyone has some EASY ways to flavor it up?

ROFL how about just throwing it into a pot unwashed and pressing the cook button. I bet that'll serve you up some sweet flavoring.

Step 1: Make a nice tomato rice by boiling rice in tomato juice instead of water.
Step 2: Fry up about a dozen small prawns in garlic butter, chives and cillantro.
Step 3: Pour garlic prawns over rice then serve.

Enjoy!

1. Steam the rice and fill a tub with the steamed rice. Eat some if you want.
2. Throw in some yeast.
3. Let it sit for 1 month.
4. Scoop out the rice and place in pot.
5. Heat and collect the vapors that collect on the lid.
6. place the vapors into a glass.

Once the vapors cooled you've got yourself some flavorful rice wine.

hehehe.

Take one run of the mill Honda Civic. Add Altezza tail lights, stickers, a giant wing on the back, stupid looking body kit, lower to ground-scraping levels and add a fart-sounding exhaust with a pipe the size of a coffee can. Presto!

Errrr...wrong rice. Sorry :D

Step 1: Go rent Fast and the Furious.

Step 2: Fit your car with NOS and the biggest spoiler you can find.

Step 3: Go out to the Boulevard or a street that is very popular to cruisers and find someone to race.

Step 4: Add more crap to your car because you lost your first race.

Step 5: Ignore the first steps because the original post was for cooking rice to eat and not to be a dumbass ricer.

1. chop up some garlic, (add other herbs u like)
2. saute in butter or olive oil
3. throw in the washed and dryed rice and saute until light brown.
4. throw in chicken broth/water mix....all broth if you like.
5. add s&p to taste....

works best with jasmine...calrose tends to be REALLY mushy/sticky.

That sounds really good. I'm not too partial to tomato juice, though.

Simple fried rice:

Throw in 1-2 eggs in wok (or whatever you use to fry eggs with)...scramble it a bit..while it is still runny...throw in the scallions....(their onion-like flavored..so they'll make the fried rice smell a whole lot better).

Before the eggs cook ALL the way..throw in about 2-3 small bowls of rice. Add a bit of salt. Mix everything up...wait til the rice browns a bit (but make sure eggs don't burn)..and voila...instant fried rice.

You could also add other kinds of vegetables and stuff (beef or chicken?) for more flavor...ie: peas, carrots...or even real onions instead of scallions. Whatever floats your boat.

EDIT: oh yea..thought it'd be a given..but just in case: the rice has to be steamed and cooked ALREADY prior to throwing in w/ the eggs and stuff. Yep. :)

Don't use fresh-cooked rice. Day-old rice is ideal - and if you have leftover rice, then this is what you can make.

BTW, green onion was designed to be put on this food. The variation in texture/density plus, of course, the taste and smell trips out your taste buds.

1. 3 tbsp margarine in a wok. Heat until sizzling.
2. Add a tbsp or two of soy sauce
3. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp cumin
4. Add some minced onion or about 1/4 tsp onion powder
5. 1/2 tsp curry powder
6. 1/2 tsp chili powder
7. Add 4 cups of cooked rice (dried...not sopping wet)

Fry for 5-6 minutes, adding more soy sauce as needed. Should be a nice dark brown when you're finished.

Makes a great side dish.

Play around with the recipe...substituting Cajun spices instead of the curry and chili powder is tasty too.

Rice Pilaf?

Fry up a hand full thin egg noodles in butter until brown. Pour in 2 to 1 ratio of chicken broth to rice and cook slow.

Simple, but I grew up eating this stuff almost every day (My mother was Armenian).
