i have a p4 2.6 800fsb 512cache, 6800 unlocked
im running two different brand 512 2700 sticks
im wondering if it would be worth it to get 3200 speed and sell those sticks
what kind of a change would i notice if i did upgrade
also, is getting 1 gig stick or two twin 512's better?

thanks, robb

you will get some performance increase form the pc3200 running in sync with your processor's fsb. Try OCing your pc2700 to pc3200 first though, a lot of the time it will just work.

I dont think ocing will work if it's just regular value ram. If it is high performance ram that can OC well then yes you should try that.

I went from PC2100 to PC3200 on the same machine and the performance increase was big, I think you will definatly see an increase going from 166Mhz to 200Mhz, it wont be huge tho. :p

When I go to buy generic ram in the last couple of years, it usually costs the same for every speed grade, and the reason is that it's all pc3200, but they don't put a sticker on it til you buy it.

Definitely worth a try OCing what you have.

If your motherboard supports dual channel, you may run into compatibility problems with differnt brands of ram, or more importantly with different configurations (eg some double-sided, some single-sided). But if you have dual channel capability, you definitely want to use it for best performance with a P4, which may entail all new ram.
