Simple Question-Wth kind of PSU standard is needed for PCI-e mobo & vid cards?

Hi all,

I was browsing newegg and I cannot seem to understand what psu specification exactly is needed for PCI-e motherboards and video cards? I know a 6 pin connector is needed if I am correct? I just don't know what standard is needed. If anyone could explain this to me and point me towards some links that would be incredible.

PS-this is the PSU I have now: http://www.newegg.com/app/view...=17-103-908&depa=0

Thanks.

I just bought this power supply, and while it doesn't say it in the description, it actually had every possible connector with it.

regular 4 pin molex connectors with easy to pull connectors
floppy drive connectors
SATA power connectors
PCI-E 6 pin video card adapter
ATX 20 pin connector
ATX 12V 4 pin connector
ATX 20 to ATX 24 pin adapter.

I still don't get it-surely someone must know how to determine PCI-e compliance by the newegg description?

I don't see how when it doesn't say what connectors are on it, and the pics aren't good enough.

Some of them do specify ATX 12V or ATX 24pin, etc. if you keep looking.

You could also visit the PS mfg website and see if there is any enlightenment to be had. 😀

What board are you thinking of buying? The boards vary as to what connectors they need. I am sure the latest PCI-E boards use the ATX 24 pin connector.

If you buy a retail video card, it will come with a molex to PCI-E power adapter, or you can buy the adapter seperately at newegg. You can also get the 20 to 24pin ATX adapter as well. So, if the supply you pick happens to be an older model, you won't actually be stuck since you will be able to get any adapter you might need.
