Simple question about CD-RW discs

For whatever reason, I've hardly ever used CD burners. Now I'm getting one (52x24x52 LiteOn I think), but I'm not sure what the right media to get is. Do I need to have 24x CD-RW discs & 52x CD-R discs? Or do just any discs work, but at slower speeds?

Thanks :)

Any speed CD-RW discs (under 24x) will work just fine at their rated speed.

Unfortunately, I have found that CD-RW discs can't be burnt at a faster speed than they are rated. I have a pack of 16x TY CD-Rs by HP that burn just fine at 40x. I have the 52x Lite-on that you mention, and my Memorex 4x CD-RWs can only be burnt at 1x, 2x, or 4x speed. :(

Thanks for the reply. That's kind of what I thought about CD-RW's. I saw some today (maybe the same Memorex ones) that were only rated up to 4x. I guess I'll try to find some that are rated higher. Also good to know that the CD-R's will work at higher speeds than they are rated...

Within reason. My POS burner (errr... It's a BTC) can tell what speed is in the drive. If it's less than 8x, it will top out at 8x. 12x and up it will let me try at any speed... Must be some kind of "high speed" marking on the disc.
