Simple problem, but not for me.

Hi y'all,

I'm having trouble with my P133 and a 3com NIC. I am currently running 98lite and it hangs big time on boot up. If I remove the NIC properties from the Network Neighborhood it will boot just fine. I would like to have a NIC as I have DSL in my house. Is there anyway to check and see if the NIC is conflicting with my old FX MoBo? Any thoughts will help

Is this related to your post in the Technical Support forum? It would have been useful information over there.....

Do you use DHCP or static IP's? DHCP can add a lot of time to boot up. My guess is your 3com card is not the problem, but rather a network setting, especially since in your other post you said your machine hangs whenever you try to access your DSL connection. Make sure everything is set up correctly for your network connection.

You could also try getting the latest drivers from 3com

If you have DSL and they use dynamic IP, then you're out of luck, but if you have static ip, as Workin' mention, you can goto network properties and put the ip in so it won't spend time looking for it.

If it hangs during boot it's likely a hardware conflict. Move the NIC to PCI slot 2 or 3, and if it boots make sure it's not sharing an IRQ.
