Simple networking question...

My PC and primary router are upstairs. I've got a hardwire run through the walls to a faceplate/jack in the den downstairs where my XBox is currently connected. But I am now going to have multiple devices that need network connections in the den. I have an unused WRT54G router. Is there anyway to use the extra router downstairs as just a hub/switch and have IPs assigned to devices behind the second router by my primary router? Would I just need to disable DHCP on the second router?

Per your description you should disable the DHCP server (as the linked article says), and also disable the wireless portion of your WRT54G, otherwise you would have a wireless access point serving the neighborhood🙂
