I want to build a new system using windows xp 32-bit. I will buy a mobo that has 4 slots for ram, but I have read that xp 32-bit will only support 3.5gb.

I could buy this memory:
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $66.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820231122

But would it be ok to buy 2 sticks of 1gb and 2 sticks of 512mb? Will it cause any issues?

For instance:

Kingston ValueRAM 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $18.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134116

and:

Kingston ValueRAM 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail $32.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820134117

The mobo I will buy:
Foxconn A7GM-S AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail $66.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813186141

You might as well just buy the 4gb of ram as it's cheap enough these days. I'm using that same exact g.skill ram using windows xp 32-bit.

With prices so cheap, it's best for you to buy 2 x 2GB PC2-6400 (1.8v), DIMMs.
Don't worry about the extra Windows won't use. ;)

The G.Skill kit you linked is good or the Mushkin 996557 kit
