Simple (hopefully) Excercise question

I've recently changed my schedule to where I workout in the early morning. I wake up, throw on some clothes, and head to the gym. Unfortunately, when I come home I always feel nauseous. I was wondering if I should eat something small before I go workout, or just tough it out?

Definately eat something before going. A protein shake would be good. Many people have said to have a bagel or toast before, but I have also heard that the carbs cause an insulin spike, not allowing enough muscle growth.

Who knows... I would at least drink a glass of milk or something.

yea, eat something small b4. like a nutrigrain bar or a protein shake. then eat your real breakfast when u get back

6 eggs and a 2 cups of oatmeal will get you through workout.

Adjust eggs to egg whites based upon your preference.

Cool. I usually drink a protein shake after I workout (weight machines, and about 15-20 min cardio). I'll try it before now.

???? An insulin spike does not inhibit muscle growth, that's the silliest thing I've ever heard. The reason he's nauseous is because his blood sugar levels are too low... hence eat a high GI food before and after your workout, and you should be fine. If your gym has a carb loading drink (mine sells them) that should do the trick, depending on how strenuous your workout is. I would personally recommend drinking a protein shake and baked potato (high GI food) or white rice, wait for it to digest (maybe a half hour to 45), and then workout. The reason for eating protein when you wake up is because your body just fasted for 5-8 hours while sleeping, and you're in a catabolic state (breakdown of muscle, you want to constantly be anabolic if building muscle). Or you can just take a supplement high in dextrose, which will nicely pad your blood sugar level and possibly spike your insulin. Spiking your insulin is not a bad thing (once or twice a day), in fact studies have shown that it helps shuttle nutrients into your system.

in the morning, you drink a glass of milk or something and then go excersie..

in the evening the same deal.. that way you wont get cramps....

but dont eat too much food.. just something light.. and then go excersie..

Huh... looks like you're right: Insulin and Bodybuilding

I definately stand corrected. But I know that some people don't eat before a workout because it "slows muscle growth"... lemme find out the reason they say that...

Here is one guy saying it's bad:
"Some professional athletes use carbohydrate-and-protein supplements that are mixed with liquid for rapid absorption into the muscles. Eating a bagel or muffin right before a workout causes blood flow to go to the stomach rather than to the muscles for performance, says Subach."
From: ProTeamPhysicians But on the same page, it says to eat before a workout... Everybody contradicts everything 😀

Best way is actually to eat DURING your workout.

Is there any harm/good for eating protein before and after?

Of course it's good. It's repairing muscle as u rip it, and providing energy if u take it before. After, it's repairing. Both are good, the only negative is that you may get a little sluggish since you're digesting, so I usually wait about 45 minutes before the workout to take one, and then another immediately after (both with water).
