this is the breakdown of points for a class i'm taking!
6 programming assignments worth 100 points each count for 60% of the grade; i got a total of 595 points
one midterm that counts 20% worth 100 points, and i got an 89;
then the final worth 20% worth 100 points. What grade do i need in the final to keep the A?
my simple approach to solve was this...
60% of 600 points is 360; 324 points is 90%
20% of 100 points is 20; 18 points is a 90%
so my faulted logic says
357 + 17.8 + x = 360
but this equation is wrong, where the hell is my error???
gotta keep studying and can't figure this simple math problme out....

59/60 (may be generous and give you all for that one.)

one midterm that counts 20% worth 100 points, and i got an 89;

18/20 (That's rounding up one point)

59+18=77

then the final worth 20% worth 100 points.

You have about 59+18 now, then 18 of 20 on final gives you 95 18 of 20 on a score of 100 is 90.....

You need a 90

well, first of all, as near I can figure, either your or your professors percent to point scale is wrong. maybe straighten that out first.

you need to figure out the percentage your scores were per section.... like your 595 out of 600 is 99.16%, then find 60% of that, which is 59.496... ok so that is for the programming assignments

now, midterm is 89 out of 100, which is 89%.... 20% of 89 is 17.8

so before the final you have 59.496+17.8 percentage points, or 77.296

now assuming an A is 90% or higher, you already have 77 points, so you only need 13 points... so 13 is what percentage of 20? 65%

so you need a 65% on the final to have an A

So far you got 59.5% + 17.8% = 77.3%. You would need 12.7% of the final's 20% for an A-. In other words you need roughly 65 points on the final.

thank God that class isn't a math class eh? :p

thanks guys...
and i thought i was good in math..hell, i remember i was able to solve equations in my head years back....so much for that ability!
60 something sounds about good!
thanks again!
