Simple DDR2 question

I have this computer and want to add more RAM.

My understanding is that I can use PC2 8500 RAM but because my 2 existing sticks are PC5300 RAM I'd be wasting the extra speed. Semms like the system bus would operate at the speed of the lowest performing RAM.

Is my assumption correct?

Yes, but beware of the voltage. Faster RAM usually needs higher voltage. You want RAM that runs at the standard 1.8v DDR2 voltage. Which is not usually 8500 RAM.

Just get some 1.8v DDR2-800, and call it a day.

ddr2-800 is very easy to find nowadays at 1.8V; maybe easier than ddr2-667.
keep in mind some motherboards do not like mixing so well. i just take the higher road and use the same ram type in a pc. not worth the headache is the SPD gets misinterpreted and crash for how cheap ram is these days
