Sim Mars

Cool

As a fan of Outpost 2, this is very interesting for me.

Also found this website with a mod Outpost 3 and updated Outpost 2 versions.

Edit - This Sim Mars is not the same one that was shelved by Maxis shortly after the launch of the Sims 1. This is an independent mod project.

God bless the mod community. 🙂

Has anyone tried it?

I intend to this weekend. Won't have any amount of time to really sit down it until then.

Just got done playing a 5 minute game of Sim Mars. I've got a AM2 X2 4200 and Radeon X1900XT with 2GB of DDR2-800 RAM. Not sure if its Sim Mars or a failure of Sim City 4, but its laggy as all hell. Zoom is especially laggy, as it loads the next zoom level.

I'm going to keep an eye on the project, see what develops from it.

I want a Sim or Strategy game where the goal is to terraform a Mars-type planet. Or, if you want to get adventurous, add other planet/moon profiles. It'd be cool to try terraform worlds like Mars, Titan, Triton, etc.

After reading on the Simtropolis forums, it seems that Sim Mars is pretty much dead. 🙁

Also, I tried paying Sim City 4 after uninstalling Sim Mars and experienced the same choppy, laggy performance. A bug with Sim City 4 and Radeons?

I run it with a 9700 Pro - pretty okay until I start dropping a lot of trees or my cities get large, then it starts to slow down quite a bit.

Hmm, if keep the POV steady in the same spot, the frame rate will steady around 60. If I move the camera at all, the frame rate drops down to below 10.

Yeah, I tried to play Sim City 4 on my X1900XTX and noticed the same ****** performance the rest of you are seeing.
