Sim City 5

From what I'm seeing, the "neighbor dependency" is only as much as you let it be. Nothing is stopping you from being your own neighbor - by design. IE: neighboring lots can be claimed by yourself, and you can make suburbs of your own city.

If the interface is more user-friendly than SC4, I might actually be back in the sim game. I was trying to avoid it, but I finally watched a video/review and I am impressed.

Yeah pretty much. The major difference from Simcity 4 from what I can see is that your neighboring cities borders no longer run up directly to your own city. So gone is the day of making one super large city that covers all the land area on the region map. They're more spread out now:

oh, look at the perfect ethnic and gender diversity and absolute hipness of these mayors! This game is Utopia!

😀

sweet, I got a beta key...when does it go live?

Friday morning at 9 Pacific, I think. Not sure if it will be available to download before that.

I'm looking forward to trying it out, I hope that the level of detail and simulation offsets the smaller maps and other stuff they took out. Based on the videos and discussions I've seen it looks cautiously promising.

One thing I never understood... other than making for a nice animation... why do buildings get built from the top down in SimCity? As in they build the top floor, then magically "raise it" to the next floor and insert the next lower floor underneath.

Don't worry, I'm sure SimCity 6 will include PvP. (Or is it CvC?) Where your sprawling city can start "incorporating" neighboring neighborhoods.

Tell me that wouldn't be cool?

If you pre-order SC5, you get the Heroes vs. Villains add-on. It would be awesome if your villains could take over another city 😛

Given EA's propensity for expansion packs with Sim games, I totally look forward to the "Gang Warfare Expansion Pack" where bloody battles for 'turf control' occur between neighborhoods.

Let's not forget the ever popular "Mob Boss Pack" where you take on your rival mob bosses to try to gain control over rival territory and businesses.

Dear god... I should be a video game producer.

That actually sounds fun. I would buy that. 🙂

I am cautiously optimistic and will probably buy the game, even though EA/Maxis failed to fix some serious game-breaking bugs in 4.

Problems in 4:
Permanent Crime in large tiles
Traffic Problems that were incurable
Subway Ridership weirdness
Bus Stop Ridership weirdness

Didn't i read that you only get to play the beta for an hour and then the key expires?

Cool! Then can I also interest you in the "Yakuza Expansion Pack", complete with Chinatown themed buildings?

And let's not forget the "Muggers and Burglars Pack", you know, to enhance the generic crime opportunities in your town.

And finally the "Columbian Drug Lord Expansion Pack", where rival drug kingpins fight to expand their empires against the up-and-coming redneck homebrew meth labs.

(Too much?)

I want a Detroit pack. Build up your city as a manufacturing powerhouse, then watch as it becomes an urban wasteland.

Nope, since you can actually watch the simmed people have a gun fight or police chases. I would love to see random houses blow up due to the shoddy meth lab setups 😛 Or even green haze above grow op houses.
