$15.00 Marina found in game's code (edit: allegedly, Reddit comments say that the account who posted the pic is deleted and no one else has confirmed it). Could be fake, could be a dev posting the truth. Personally it seems kinda high, $1.50 and I'd believe it.

In case you guys didn't see it in the other thread(s).

I sure hope that it isn't true or that the decimal point is in the wrong spot.

About a year ago, most retailers had sim city 4 deluxe in their budget bin for $5. Chances are they are probably still floating around. I got mine at an office depot.

I know I paid ~ $20 for Sim City 4 Deluxe c. 2005. on sale at BB.

good times.

How's the traffic fix working out for you guys?

I've been playing on my brothers account for a few days. I'm noticing improvements with the traffic system, but I think a large issue is the way the different type of roads work. Maxis should of created a tutorial on road optimization considering SC5 is 75% road-based. Buses aren't working perfectly either; I've heard that the sims go to work while waiting for a bus, their job gets taken while on the bus, and then they trip out or such. Not sure if that's actually true.

given how the agent system works, going via bus or driving has the same issue of the job being taken. This is partly to do with the sims not "owning" a job, but it is first in , best dressed when it comes to jobs (and homes).

Given how mediocre the actual gameplay is and the virtual promise of $$$costing additions, it's going to have to hit sub 15 before I'm even interested.

Agreed, for the most part. It's a really fun game for the first two cities. I thoroughly enjoyed being new and learning things out either the easy way, or (mainly) the hard way. After you get about 100k in one city, you see what issues people were complaining about. The small map size means even by 100k population you are frantically readjusting things to keep your city sustainable. By the second or third map, there isn't much to do that you haven't already done, and you start noticing all the tiny bugs everywhere as you go along.

The first city I spent 10 hours playing. Second city, 6-8. third city? Maybe 3 hours tops before I had a "I know how this will end" moment. TLDR; the game becomes more dull as you go along. There isn't much surprises sans the disasters. Another thing I hope they patch is the road/grid system. It's pretty buggy for a feature that is the heart of the agent system.

I'd pay no more than 30-40$ for this game. For 30$, it's a pretty good deal.

Sounds like a definite non-buy until they get their shit together...even when they eliminate the server instability and disappearing cities (wow that would piss me off)...still a ton of bugs to be squashed. From this thread it looks like they really rushed this out when it was nowhere near ready. It's as moddable as SimCity4? It took the community to fix the traffic issues with the NAM thing...don't expect EA/Maxis to do things better with SimCIty 5.

I bought the game yesterday knowing full well of these issues. However, I wanted Dead Space 3 and because Target had it on sale for 39.99, I figured, heck, why not. I am only paying $9.99 for it that way, since Dead Space 3 was on sale for $29.99.

The game itself isn't bad, but it is definitely named incorrectly. It should be called 'Sim Town' because that is how small the city limits are. It is still a lot of fun, but definitely less complicated (in some ways) than Sim City 4. I played the tutorial and probably worked on a city for about 1 hour.

For $9.99 I am ok with it. If I paid more? Not sure yet. But if I lost a city that I put a ton of effort into? Yeah, I'd probably be as pissed as some of you.

Still trying to decide between ME2, DS3, or BF3. I haven't played any of them. I played ME1 and never got that into it. Right now I'm leaning towards dead space.

It'll get exactly 1 patch, then all the rest of the updates will be DLCs. Gone are the days of constant patching for a game. The only games that get more than 1-2 patches now are MMORPGs and the odd ball here and there.

The industry has moved to a model of "We don't give a fuck about our customers, just blame the pirates".

That's being a little unrealistic.

I'm actually very happy I didn't get this game out of impulse. Maybe when I was 18 or 19, but when you get older your priorities seem to shift - like a mortgage.

The immense complexity was one of the things I loved about SC4. So many different structure effects, the willingness of Sims to inhabit certain things changed as the city grew, revenue per Sim changed, loads of transportation options...so many different things going on there.

Unfortunately, we all knew it was coming though:
Will Wright has previously stated in an interview on May 16, 2003, that there would probably be more expansion packs after Rush Hour,[32] but none have ever been released. In another interview on May 22, 2004, Wright stated that Maxis was attempting to work out a "new direction" for SimCity after new versions had become "steadily more complex".[31]
Two SimCity games for PC have followed SimCity 4. The first was SimCity Societies, which was developed by Tilted Mill Entertainment and released on November 13, 2007.[33] The second was SimCity, which was announced on March 2012 and was released in March 2013.[34]

SimCity kind of worked itself into a corner, [because] we were still appealing to this core SimCity group. It had gotten a little complicated for people who had never played SimCity. We want to take it back to its roots where somebody who had never heard of SimCity can pick it up and enjoy playing it without thinking it was really, really hard.

SC5 seems very simple compared to it's predecessors. However, my girlfriend who has never touched a Sim* game finds SC5 to be quite enjoyable. I'll probably let her play my copy of SC5 and just download the free copy of SC4 for myself.
