Anybody on the west coast have this active yet? I'm guessing they are releasing it at 12am local time for respective regions/timezones?

I'm on the east coast and I can't download. Not allowing preloads won't be a problem, said nobody, ever. I swear to God the people at EA have their heads so far up their asses.

i'm interested in seeing how long it takes to get cracked.

lets see if pissing off all of their customers is worth the trouble.

How nice it is that the first thing I get after launching and clicking "getting started" is "unable to load the city. please try again later".

Honestly? that sort of shit is inexcusable on launch day.

That sort of shit is expected on launch day.

Looks like its tanking on metacritic:

3.3 😱

No offense but most of them seem to be by non-owners:

"The game has a lot of problems. Only one of them actually matters. Never support always online DRM for a single player game. Lots of people cannot play their single player game because of this and gamers need to do everything they can to stop developers from including it. Do you still play SimCity 4? Good luck playing this game in 10 years. The servers will probably be down then and you'll be locked out of your single player game. SINGLE PLAYER!"

lol I think I've read 15 users reviews that start off with 'always on DRM" on the first page.

I just downloaded and installed the game on Origin in less than 5 minutes. I'm not sure how that is even possible! EDIT: and then the downside, updating...5 minutes already at 15%.

While the always on DRM does suck, its not a deal breaker for me...thats what the company decided so we have to deal with it..and if you don't have a reliable broadband then you might want to move to europe...

the one thing I noticed people saying was that they were put into a que in order to play single player game? is that true? if that is true than that is total BS...

Smoothest gaming release ever!

Very fast download no error messages.

I dunno, I have enough faith in the sim city franchise to trust that the issues will work themselves out.

I hate the always on internet concept, but I also have historically just flat out not bought any game that required it so I can't really judge.

We'll see, it downloaded for me fine. I will be ticked if I can't play it tonight.

And you expect this issue to last how long? Why do people act like these lauch day issues are deal breakers?

Because there is no reason for it? Other than greed and stupidity? NOT BEING ABLE TO PLAY THE GAME is a hell of a deal breaker.

Metacritic is turning into a joke...

I still like the review aggregation but for almost any bigname game you simply have to ignore most of the user reviews, people are just too hypersensitive and self-righteous. They can't separate "game review" from "personal quest against XYZ corporation".

I was just told by their support. That because my video card doesn't meet minimum requirements. That I cannot install this game.

I have been trying to install this game and I'm only able to install the installer. But it never launches. And waited 1.5 hours in their live help chat to be told that my video card is the reason why I cannot install it.

I have a crappy laptop, it's not a mystery to me. I have played the Beta. I can play BF2 on the highest settings(not the greatest feat). I can play a lot of other games just fine on low settings. I was required to check my capabilities through canyourunit. I have found this to be a good guide line, but never completely reliable. Even if my computer had no hope in hell of running a game, I have always been able to install it.

They kept referencing me to all these ridiculous programs I have to use to uninstall or to support the installation of the game and Origin. No. After all of this BS for the past 2 hours I was just left in the chat without a sorry this didn't work out, I can no longer help, etc. The 'help' just left.

What video card is in the laptop?

I'm not sure what you expected them to do, if your vid card is too slow and you won't accept that fact.

So, to buy or not to buy?
I'm in urgent need of an awesome city game...but didn't follow SC5 development at all. Gonna try to gather some more infos before buying but for those of you who own and played the game how is it?

It's some crappy integrated video card. I don't know if you read my post thoroughly. I do accept the fact my video card is too slow, on paper. I PLAYED the Beta. Unless they did a complete and total revamp of the game entirely in less than 2 weeks then I don't see what difference it makes. They are saying because my video card isn't good enough, I cannot install the game, that is the reason why it is not working. Not the reason why I can't play it, it's why I can't install it.

I expected a reference to customer service to receive a refund, or an apology, or a good bye. Not to just space out and leave me hanging. I wasn't being belligerent or attacking the guy.

If EA is screening your computer capabilities and preventing you from installing a game, opposed to buying it then that is pretty much a scam.

What are the exact specs? I've read the intel HD4000 as the minimum vid card for awhile now.

Part of the point of a beta is to determine stuff just like this... You played the beta, they collected statistics, decided your setup is too slow, and blocked it via install.

How did it play for you in the beta? was it really slow? I had this issue with Diablo 3, but they also blocked lower than minimum specs in the beta.
