Opinions would be appreciated. I'm thinking of buying this for my next build. I'm also curious as to whether my XP120 heatsink will fit under the "wind tunnel".
 
doesn't look like you received any input on this case unless you were pm'd... i have the same question about the wind tunnel and am wondering if it will cause more problems than it's trying to solve... anyone care to comment?
 
Really oversized HSFs don't fit under the tunnel w/o modding. But then, they shouldn't be needed with the tunnel and its dual 120s moving the air thru. There are lots of reviews around on the Temjin 6 and its kin: Aerocool Spiral Galaxies (cheapest of the bunch), Tt Circles, Enermax 718 (I think), etc. Plenty of experiences to read about with the wind tunnel design.

I've got that case. I love it. Get the black one 😀, I just spray painted the inside of mine flat black, and it looks darn good now. There are a ton of reviews around. My freezer 64 pro fits under the wind tunnel just fine. Temps with my 3800 x2 are in the mid 20s idle with 2 yate loon 120mm fans. That is in air conditioning though. It idles right around ambient always w/ or w/o AC. The tool-less design is pretty neat, the cd drives are a pain to get in and out though. System temps havent hit 40C under full load yet w/ 3 sata drives, 6600gt and my x2. Anything specific you'd like to know just ask.

edit - It is surprisingly quiet. Not dell quiet, but it isn't like an idling airplane like my old case. Make sure your PSU has a fan on the bottom, it'll suck out the hot air coming from your vid card and hdds.
 
Thanks for the feedback, dustmann. I was originally considering the Zalman CNPS9500 which is a bit larger than your Freezer 64 Pro. Of course, with the wind tunnel, I probably don't need such a large HSF setup as the Zalman. Are you OC'ing your 3800? I'm looking at doing some slight OC'ing if I get that chip. Nothing major, but I would love to be rock-solid stable, cool and quiet at about ~2.4 ghz. Not sure if the HSF you are using and the wind tunnel will help me to achieve that or not. AFAIK, it'll probably help me achieve that better than the Zalman in the P180b!

Regarding the PSU, I'm looking at the Seasonic S12 600W which has a large fan and I assume the unit can be mounted so the fan is facing the interior of the case.

We got this case (black, with side window) and a Seasonic S-12 600W.

It is very high quality, you will notice almost all the edges inside are rounded off so as to not cut your hands. The finish and the hinged door on the front are also done nicely. The S-12 does feed from the bottom, which means it will work well with this case.

We got the Silverstone Nitrogen V2.0 because it was designed to work specifically with the wind tunnel. But if you want to go with something else I'm sure that can work well also (see dustmann's post). But some very tall and bulky HSFs may run into fitment issues (ie Tuniq 120).

See the SPCR review of the case for more details. We do intend to replace the 80x25mm case fan with a Nexus Real Quite (get rid of the buzzing) and add a fan controller to run everything at 7v. It's an inexpensive mod.
 
I haven't OC'ed much, I've only had the chip for a week. My mobo just crapped out on me and I'm waiting on an RMA. I got it up to 2100 the day I got it and it ran prime95 for 3 hours. Temps didnt change a bit vs stock, I'm sure it will OC nicely. I'm hoping it'll go as high as my old 3000+ did (1.8 to 2.6 on stock volts)

I did notice that adding the freezer 64 didn't really lower temps much over stock. It actually idles a bit higher than stock, but the load temps are a bit lower. I think its because of the wind tunnel 🙂

That psu looks good, I was looking at one of those, ended up getting an antec tp550 with a 120mm fan on the bottom, suits me fine. Would have preferred it to come sleeved though.
 
Thank you for that information, it is very helpful. I like the Silverstone HS concept and see how it could work well with the wind tunnel. I will be reading some reviews in the near future to see how temps are with that case and that HS combo.
 
I'm really interested in finding out about the performance of the TJ-06 case while using the Silverstone NT01 v2.0 passive HS and wind tunnel. I read a few reviews but they are all from late 2004. I'm curious how this setup will perform on a modern day CPU (AM2 X2 3800 or 4200, etc.)
 
I think that nt01 cooler would work rather nicely. Silverstone makes that cooler specifically for their upside down cases, so the heatpipe will still be effective when mounted upside down. The case hasn't changed much from late 04. If anything based on newer technology (90nm cores over 130nm), I think the x2 would run cooler than the cpus in the reviews. My x2 runs cooler with the stock hs/f than my socket 754 3400+ with the freezer 64 pro. 😕

If you find anything, or end up getting that sink, let us know how it works out.
 
Good to know about the older processors, I haven't built a new PC for a little while so I just assumed things have kept getting hotter 😉.

I'll be sure to report back here if I end up going with the Silverstone "wind tunnel" setup. I like the fact that it will probably run quieter since the CPU cooler is completely passive. Obviously the two 120mm fans at either end of the tunnel will create some noise, but those fans would exist in ANY case along with a massive CPU fan as well.
 
I have the black version of this case & love it! You can see a pic of it in my sig. I can't wait to add the black Stacker 830 next to it. You won't go wrong with this case.

In terms of the questions you have regarding fitting, I can't say because I don't use the tunnel. It didn't fit well for my application, so I removed it. I can say this though; this case has lots of room inside. You should be able to do just about anything you need to.

The fit & finish of this case is remarkable. It's made from high quality materials & great craftsmanship.

The only thing I didn't like was my case doesn't have the MB cutout on the tray. It's an opening on the MB tray that reduces your cabling. I've heard from a few owners of the black case that they don't have it either.

I'm still undecided about which case I'll get. ATM I'm now re-thinking my CPU and mobo configuration and may end up going C2D instead of AMD.

No, I'm not doing any OC'ng, everything is running stock.



 
Started fitting components today, found out that the ASUS P5W-DH MB, Nitrogen V2.0 HSF, and the wind tunnel don't like each other very much. The problem is that Silverstone's HSF vane block is situated too far towards the top of the case. Moving the vanes a little over 1/4th inch downwards would have cleared the top of the wind tunnel easily. We'll need to cut out a 2.5" x 1.25" rectangle in the wind tunnel so that it will slip over the HSF. It's slightly disappointing to me though, that this kind of additional prep work is needed for a HSF designed specifically for Socket T MB/TJ-06 cases.
 
That's very surprising, considering (like you said) that the HS was designed by Silverstone, for their own case! I'm considering not using their HS, however, and going with a Zalman CNPS9500. I need to do some research to see if that HSF would fit inside the tunnel. Let us know how effective your cooling ends up, especially with the hole cut in the tunnel. Oh, and also let us know how/if you're OC'ing. Thank you!

I'd suggest you go with the Arctic Cooler 7. I got a chance to examine it at a store while picking out additional items. It looks like it will clear the tunnel, and you can orient the fan direction so that it aligns with the front-back direction of the case. Also has a lot of favorable reviews.

Other than this oversight, the case has impressed with its overall quality. The NTV2.0 actually works well with the rear 120 - I'm getting an idle of right around 35C-38C with the 6600. For those who have the windowed version of the TJ-06 and are interested in a little bling, be advised that a Logisys 12" Meteor LED will fit perfectly underneath the center crossmember/rail going front-to-back and will secure easily with 2 zip ties. Very integrated/clean look, although to make it fit you will have to ditch the tool-less card hold-down widget... I found that it didn't work that well with the GX2 anyways, and the case comes with enough extra screws.

I replaced the front 80mm fan with a Cooler Master 80x25mm Aluminum Fan. I'm running all 3 case fans though a Sunbeam 5.25" Black 4 Channel Rheobus. If your fans have the 4-pins (all the stock Silverstones are) you will have to buy 4-pin to 3-pin wires. The CM 80mm comes with a 3-pin. The black fan controller fits well with our black case and the 4 knobs smoothly ramps up fan voltage from 0-7 volts (red) to 7-12 volts (blue). The Silverstone tool-less 5.25 mounts will not work with the fan controller, fortunately there are enough screws provided with the case to mount the rheobus. The aftermarket 80 and the stock 120s are very quiet - no hint of annoying high-pitched buzz anywhere from 7-12 volts. Just the sound of air being moved around, which fades to about nothing with 7 volts.

So far our rig looks very clean and is running smoothly, although an attempt to follow anandtech's OCZ TiAlpha VX2 benchmark settings have resulted in failing memtest #5. Auto-detecting everything clears all memtest passes. Further work is needed. 3DMark06 scores are pending. We don't plan to overclock the CPU (yet).

Subjective impressions? Case feels like quality, looks impressive. The computer has some serious snap when carrying out orders. We can't wait to start running games on this rig.

Welcome back to your own thread! I kinda hijacked it while you weren't looking... 😱 How are you digging your new Antec case? I'm still undecided although EROEIone2one has been extremely helpful in giving me a thorough analysis of this case. Many thanks to you, EROEI!

Some observations after >9.5 hours of Orthos:

After SuperPi32M, the CPU temp dropped down to 28C. Is that our idle?
The peak observed temp running Orthos is 51C. During this time, temps are hovering around 48C-50C.
No errors or crashes so far. The Auto-Detect for the ram turned out to be PC2-6400 800-DDR2 5-5-5-15. Still not sure why we aren't matching the anandtech benchmarks for this ram, which used a Conroe processor and the same mainboard.
