Link... These guys are about an inch long and not harmful to people.

Our new house has them... We see probably five a day. We've had an exterminator treat the house, but they all pretty much say that there's no way to get completely rid of them, especially because of our cedar shake roof.

Personally, it doesn't bother me. The sightings have been less each day since the exterminator was here. My wife is convinced that they will always be a part of our lives.

My wife is rather unhappy, which has a direct corolation with my happiness. 🙁
 
I found one in my room once, but it's the only one I've ever seen in the 2 years I've lived here. It was actually pretty neat... they squirm in a weird way.
 
When we lived in residence in University, we had them. We were told after the place was sprayed not to leave anything on the floors, especially papers and the like...that seemed to work and they went away! Good luck...I too, would be upset.
 
I have eleven cats... I have no problems with anything that crawls, slithers, flies lower that four feet for a nanosecond, rodents, and numerous of things.

My parents house has them. I can't stand them. I've seen a couple of them in my condo -- I'm worried that I brought them over from my parents house when I came and picked up my old boxes (about 21 full sized) filled with my old comic book collection.

Is your house a newly built house? I always pictured silverfish living in old dusty houses (my parent's house is an old one) or libraries filled with books.

Prevention
Sanitation is important but not entirely effective in reducing populations because insects often reside between wall partitions, in insulation materials, in books and papers, among book shelves and in other protected places. However, be sure to remove old stacks of newspapers, magazines, papers, books and fabrics plus foodstuffs spilled and stored for long periods of time. Often reducing available water and lowering the home's relative humidity with dehumidifiers and fans is helpful. Repair leaking plumbing and eliminate moisture around laundry areas. Lighting a dark, sheltered area may force these insects to move to new sites where they can be controlled more easily. Once the infestation has been eliminated, sanitation will help prevent reinfestation.

It absolutely boggles my mind everytime I hear that someone has sprayed toxic chemicals in and around their house because of some stupid, harmless bugs(unless they're eating your books).

They were there first! What do you expect?

I never have and never will use pesticides in my home. Maybe sparingly in the garden, but thats the extent of it.

Maybe if I have a carpenter ant or termite infection, I'd call an exterminator, but all other bugs are simply a nuisance, and the potential downsides to having toxic chemicals in your place of residence outweighs that, IMO.
 
There were some outside on the wall of the buidling when I moved in. I sprayed the whole side of the building and I haven't seen one since.
 
i hate those things. lysol aerosol spray (98% alcohol) kills them on contact, it seems
 
I see them semi-regularly in my bathroom. My apt is a POS though, but I'll be moving into another POS in a couple months

Christ. It boggles my mind that you can't understand how uncomfortable and unhappy my wife is. And that you can't comprehend that I've done what research I can about the chemicals used, and their potential hazards.

I am fighting a scourge of earwigs. I must have killed 50 of them already.

every once in a while, during the summer time silverfish fall out of our air ducts in the house...they are creepy...but i just step on them...no more silverfish...
 
I hate those sons of bitches. I always find them in my basement bathroom. Our basement is rather damp, which silverfish love so I see them crawling on the walls all the time. I made it my mission to squash every one I see. Recently, I've expanded my psychological warfare against them by crushing the lower half of their body and letting the rest of the body squirm around until they dry out and die. Hopefully their continuous screams of agony will send a message to the rest of them to get the fvck out.
