"It is illegal to turn a coin into an advertising vehicle, and violators can face a fine."
I didnt know that. Is there silver in a quarter? Why are they so cheap and not build a lifesize model of the silver surfer. That may get me want to see the movie.

I saw a couple of these the other night, my coworker got his hands on three.

These things are going for over $100 on ebay.

Easy way to fix this.

$500 fine and a year in jail for anyone caught with these coins.

Heheh. I heard NASA was going to do that, but the additional paint weighed too much.

I thought the shuttle had to do more than make left turns?

A real size silver surfer statue made of silver would be worth much more.

I think the US Mint is boring... Tho the state quarters are kind of neat. I think more companies should start this up would make the coins look pretty cool. Oh well, no one has a problem when you put mickey mouse on a penny, pennies OK quarters not...

Ebay now sells them for over 200 bucks a 800% profit! Maybe in a few years they will be worth 800 dollars? Better get yours now! classic

If you think about it... it pretty much makes one, giant, continuous left turn. ;)

"Inel Inside!"
"Pennzoil"
"Pizza Hut"
"Honda"

Man, you could fund each launch with little or no tax payer dollars. $1 million/sq ft.

Wow. I know someone at the firm that distributed these. He gave me 4 of them and the first thing I said, after feeling disgusted about ads on $$$, was that this HAS to be illegal! I dont plan to sell them as I dont want to get caught in the middle of some federal suit, but I am giving em back because its just wrong. What next? Bluetooth chip coins spewing ads to our cell phones? UG!

I am literally speechless at the unbelievable stupidity that had to go into this. Not only did it pass through several layers of management, but I am sure their legal council had to approve as well?

And why a quarter? I mean honestly, this is really dumb.

This is like how bums use to carve their own nickels. It is nothing new. This is like those machines where you put in a penny and it presses it into some kind of design or something. I have seen these kind of machines at tourist sites.

Every day you see an ad for the Franklin mint or some other group that put a 9-11 quarter... or flag quarter or something of the sort out for 10 bucks... I thought this was a cool idea ... but I thought the gov was down with it... guess not... If anything though these are just like all those other quarters... they are still legal tender.
