silly to get a 1600x900 monitor?

my Acer 23 inch 1920x1080 crapped out right around the time I was upgrading to my new pc. I have looked at many 1920x1080 monitors but I find myself being sick of TN crap and that is all that is sold locally. funny thing is I am using an Acer 20 inch 1600x900 led and kind of like it though.

it seems the smaller TN monitors do not seem as crappy looking. by that I mean the viewing angles and such are not so bad because the monitor screen is physically smaller. plus I think for 99 bucks I am just not as picky. also there is no noticeable back light bleeding which is nice

the physical size and resolution are pretty small when you are used to 1920x1080 and 23 inches but I think I can get used to it. another benefit of 1600x900 is that I can get a gtx560 Ti and get better performance than using a gtx570 at 1920x1080.

anyway I guess I am just trying to convince myself to get this monitor for now. I have been using my old 17 inch crt for a few weeks and it is driving me nuts. my thinking is just get this 20 inch for now and later down the road try and find a good quality 23 or 24 inch when I am not in a rush to get a new monitor.

so any other 1600x900 users out there?

Monitor is always a long term product. It would be better if you could save up some money and go for IPS monitors. Dell 23" IPS looks good.

okay after testing some games its going back. I am not sure what the technical term is but objects in games sort of jitter when looking around. the same blurry look you get when dragging a window across the desktop on an LCD. I am sure most LCDs do that in games but this was just awful. I have the CRT sitting right here and kept going back and forth checking the same spots in a couple of games and the CRT was nice and smooth.

the one that took a crap a few weeks ago was the H233H I believe. it was nothing great but it got the job done until it started flickering.


the 20 inch I am using now is the H201SL. its a nice small monitor for surfing the web and watching vids but it failed the gaming test big time.

Just get a solid IPS monitor
Dell 23" can be had for cheap when they are on sale

Personally I find I can't use anything with less than 1680x1050... mostly due to the vertical size

I've been using a Dell 20" 1600x900 monitor for a while, and it is perfectly fine to me. Of course, I'd previously been using a 15" for about 10 years.

Man, I would really hate to give up on my 26" 1920x1200 screens. The extra vertical real-estate is really nice, and to me, essential. I previously had a 20" and a 22" 1680x1050 screen. I still have the 20", but I sold the 22". Got a fairly good deal on all of my screens.

(Little did I know that the 26" LCDs I bought were being discontinued, no wonder the price was so good. But they run great.)

Really, Toyota, you should probably hold out and get a nice screen, if you can afford it, it's so totally worth it. Getting an interim screen is likely just a waste of money, unless you can sell it on.

Was in the same boat as toyota and still am but i'm stuck using a dell crt 19 inch at 1600x1200.

Went to best buy about 2 weeks ago looking for a 27 inch monitor and a soundblaster titanium HD and i walk out with a 37 inch t.v and a new t.v stand for it.

Damn t.v was on sale and was the same price as the monitor so i felt stuck on stupid paying $400 for the monitor...

Get at least a 1920x1080 monitor. I bet you're buying a new card soon so get something to compliment your PC.
