apparently he's too scared to send a check to newegg (fraudophobia I guess) so he wants me to put it on a credit card and he'll send me a check. I said dude, newegg is about as reputable a company as you're gonna find online but he still wants me to be the middleman. so I said no. I try to help family out but this seems a little irrational to me.
 
Most people don't know that you are liable at most only $50 for fraudulent purchases on your CC. In the meantime, they freak out when they go on the net and punch it in.
 
Why not do it for him? It's not like you're going to be losing anything. Unless you don't have the room; then I could understand not doing it. But otherwise, why not be nice and help him out? Some people just don't trust the internet (and most of the time they're right not to).

Question is: What does he need you to buy? (middleman) new highly secert cpu for the army? Maybe hes recieving a new motherboard and cpu capable of doiing 10ghz stock no overclock. Rosewell style!

Just do it and help your dad out, it is such a small thing to do for someone who has done SO much for you.

Figure out the costs and repay him the millions he spent on you, when you have done that you can whine about "not risk management service for my family" waaaah.

oh it's just for a copy of Windows XP and a USB PCI card. he should pay with a credit card and use the money from the check to pay down the CC balance.

I would, he's the one that has to pay fees if it bounces. After check clears then buy product. Profit. the end.
 
Actually, if a check bounces, a lot more banks are making the person that received the bounced check pay a fee now too (at least Wells Fargo - $7 "Returned Item Fee").
