I can't believe it!!!

I was looking for an easy way to wrap the loose wires in my case. I knew better than to use electrical tape.

I googled non sticky tape and eventually hit on silicone tape.

Ran to Radio Shack and picked up some. Once you get the concept of not letting it touch to itself it wraps famtastic. It stretches to conform to the shape of the wire or plug you're covering. It does exactly what you want it to do. No tubes needed.

My Armor already had excellent air flow. The tape did not help to improve it, but any set of exposed multiple wires and unused plugs are now wrapped. Most all my wires run along the back plate and only sneak through little openings in the back panel to where they need to go.

If you have not tried it yet - do it !!! I have a hard time believing you'll regret it and it has a perfect fininshed look to it.
 
No. Started late and finished late. Didn't need to use a lot either because of all of the above.

Only had to wrap three sets of wires.

I'm a total newb when it comes to putting photos online. I do know how to take a photo and post it onto ebay... but how would I get a photo linked onto here... for free?

I assume I open an account and attach it... like I would with ebay... so....

where's a free site that does not spam or embed spyware onto my PC. If you know of one - I'll post.
 
I think that silicone, self-sealing tape is pretty cool. Grabbed some when R-S was blowing it out. I think G-Y looks kindly on it as well.

Great stuff! Zepper said I should check it out & I too got some at blow out prices.

I would not recomend it for sleeving cables. If two wrapped cables touch they will hook-up with eachother fast. Don't ask how I know. I would recomend it to secure the ends of expandable sleeving if heat shink were not handie. PSU cabling does not over heat very often, if at all, but I don't like the idea of tight bundeling as it elliminates any air.

We don't have the serviceman's need but sleeving does stop the use of a clamp meter for diagnostics 😉 I do sleeve cables but spiral wrap does hold an advantage here.

GY: Please make this clear to me. Are you saying that the silicone tape will 'melt' into (and stick to) the plastic that surrounds the wires I wrapped and compromise their insulating function?

Or are you referring to accidently having two contacts pressed together when wrapping tightly.

So I was concerned enough to google for some info while waiting for a response. Found this. Feel a little better.. even if it's not specifically about the tape.

Silicone sealant is a good fast curing adhesive which can be obtained clear or in a number of colors. For vertical services generally, one should tape objects in place for a few hours. Do not apply to bare metal as the curing process puts out ammonia which will cause the surface to deteriorate and the bond to fail. Silicone however, is not a petro chemical based product so it will not melt plastic or rubber. It does require air to cure so be sure to provide some airway -holes etc... if large impermiable surfaces are to be bonded.

So do I rip most of it off to protect my wiring ??? BTW the loose molex in picture 802 will be for the new Thermaltake Armor side panel with fan when it's available.
 
What G-Y meant: two bundles of wires separately wrapped with the silicone tape may stick together if the wrappings come in contact.

Looks good and don't get panic stricken 😀

See how air can get to the main harness through the expandable sleeving.? I like that.
Not necessary but I like it.

The self healing silicone will *NOT* put stickey stuff on the wires insulation.

If two cabling runs touch eachother they will make friends as the silicone wrap will bind
to itself. This will just make it harder to remove and reinstall the cabling. Not a big deal
really.

Be carefull near sharp edges in the case because that silicone tape cuts real easy. It is
not abrasion resistant.

I like this self healing silicone tape but it is not cheap 😉

Sigh of relief.

Yeah I noticed that. But it will not complete a circuit in some bizarre (unimaginable) fashion will it? Please confirm and I promise not to ask again.

The tape had a clear plastic film that stuck well to it. I'm thinking (hoping) that a piece of that between the wraps will prevent them from sticking.....

So... now I need to come up with another solution. how to apply 'something safe' to the tape that nullifies it's stickyness and prevent it from sticking to each other.

So does the ability to 'bond' to like surfaces fade with time ?
 
Too long to be worth waiting... You could cut some strips of SaranWrap or such and give the silicone a non-sticky skin.

Seriously... I do think this product needs something easier to prevent this issue.

Saran Wrap would have me concerned mostly on static buildup and also on looks.

The only thing I can think of to cover with is something like shrink wrap... but then the issues of removing the plugs comes into play if you want a tight fit... and then why bother with the silicone wrap to begin with.

Now if the 'heat sensitive' characterstics of shrink wrap were applied in an outer layer to the silicone tape, then you have something special.
 
I had seen some silicone tape featured on an episode of Stacey David's Gearz show called ER Tape made by Rowe. I had tried some, works great and fuses to itself quickly. So many different uses for it and only sticks to itself - so leaves no sticky residue on whatever you are wrapping. The same company also had a product called Versimold, was a moldable silicone rubber to make parts and/or repairs, cures by applying a heat gun to it. They had a website in case anyone was interested in checking it out -
