Silent PC Review calls Thermalright u-120 extreme

Interesting how the Ninja still performs better under passive conditions. Everything else has been common knowledge for quite a while, though.

Interesting that the Gigabyte boards with the good passive cooling are incompatible with this cooler. I wonder if the new Rev 2.0 versions of many of the boards will be OK with this cooler, or if they're flawed as well?

Hey, maybe I'll throw a U-120 in the Cooler Master CM 690 'garbage can' I just ordered - along with a half-dozen Yate Loon 140s...

Seems fitting! 😉

Um...

Are they selling for $14.95 at Overstock yet?

It's fins are spaced further apart, so that air can actually get in there without the help of a fan.

Why is it interesting?

There are a few hwatsinks that perform adequatly with passive cooling!

The Ninja was designed originally to be used for passive cooling.
Adding the fan was an after thought!

I got my new PC this weekend, and I can confirm that with the Rev 2.0 of the Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4 that you CAN use this heatsink. So all of the newer revision boards with this general design should be fine, whereas the older ones are the only ones that are bad.

I just put a Ninja in my friends computer... I don't like em. The fan is kinda hard to get on, the fins... just.. damn i can describe it. I tried to get him a Tuniq, but he did not want to spend that much. I have no say so on the Ultra-120/Ex, but i have used a Tuniq, and it cools damn good. And its not loud at all with the fan on high.
