On the plus side, it seems she didn't suffer. On the negative side, in the end I guess that really doesn't matter. It's crazy how the human body responds sometimes.

Sorry for your loss, may your wife and her family find the strength they need.

I don't know if it's a comforting thought or not but it's unlikely they would have caught it earlier. Pancreatic cancer is usually only caught in its final stages. So don't think, if only they had caught it sooner.

My father mother died from it in her 30s. Seeing his mother die at the age of 6 like that scared him for life.

Nasty fucking disease. You usually don't know you have it until it's way too late to do anything about it...

I should stop drinking diet sodas. My family history is riddled with cancer and I drink a SHIT TON of diet sod a day.

eh, sugar.

stop consuming sugar if this actually worries you. any kind of derivative, actually (yes diet soda--but anything that is meant to be sugar) again, this is only because it might worry you?

and sorry Olds, this is horrible to hear.

typically, with cancer, you get to "plan." it tends to be the only "positive" thing about cancer...but cancer being cancer, it is always prick of a disease.

so sorry to hear this, and fuck cancer.

RIP.

Well the only thing that worries me is the potential connection between artificial sweeteners and pancreatic, or other, cancers. I don't know how well established this link is but I've heard accusations. My family has a long history of cancer so there's a good chance I have genes that lay me susceptible to some form of cancer. Otherwise I don't really want to quit drinking diet sodas as it's basically all I drink.

Damn... that is so sad. Part of me wants to be thankful that she didn't suffer the typical 'waste away' cancer death... I"ve seen that, it's horrible. The other part of me just feels sad that nobody had any warning... especially her.

Sorry for everyone's loss...

I think pancreatic cancer IS one of the cancers whereby people waste away like that.

All of them are. Most cancer deaths are lingering, painful events.

I've seen it up close and personal. It's horrific. If she went quick without the usually misery...

I hate to say 'good for her' because that is just plain callous...

But really... I've seen the pain, misery and fear...

There's no win here...

Yes I know. My grandfather has terminal cancer and will likely go this way, even though he is phenomenally strong willed :( My point was that I think Pancreatic cancer causes people to waste away even more than others.

dude, i'm so sorry to hear that :(

that's absolutely horrible. i'm sure it feels worse for you given that your sister-in-law was your wife's twin.

my deepest sympathies and condolences :(

find solace in the fact that she went in peace and without pain.

try not to stress much about the possibility that you might have pancreatic cancer... it's more likely that it's something else.

that sucks :(

my grandfather died from pancreatic cancer... I was with him in August and he was feeling under the weather; he was diagnosed that September, and we buried him on Easter weekend of the same year.

That doesn't make any sense. Do you mean the following year?

Unfortunately catching it early doesn't do much good for pancreatic cancer. Even among people who detect it before it spreads and have a successful Whipple procedure the long-term survival statistics are dismal. Early detection doesn't always save lives.

It's sad that the best treatment in the best case schenario were the tumor is operable is a fairly ineffective Whipple procedure that was first performed in 1909 and improved by Dr. Whipple in 1935 :(

You would think in 75yrs medical science could do better

sorry to hear that, best of wishes to you. i have an uncle who was "supposed" to die 2 years ago with lung cancer. few months ago they found out he now has brain cancer. he is extremely strong willed, but my cousin told my wife the other day that they really think now he doesn't have much time left :(.
