I need a deathly silent PC - nearly as, or as silent as a laptop.

What must go into it:

Maxtor 20Gb HDD
Creative 6x DVD-ROM
Creative SBLive! Platinum w/Live! Drive IR
Netgear 10/100 Ethernet adaptor
3.5" FDD
ATX full size mobo
PIII 500 (s1) w/cooler master fan (seem to be fairly silent), 128MB x 4 sticks

Ambient temp in this room will be 4C - 32C (Without cooling or heating. Either may be off and the PC unattended, which is the reason why I mention the temps)

Any suggestions?

A 1GHz PIII Tualatin displaces the same amount of heat and is much faster if you're interested. Also, the Cyrix C3 is incredibly cool. You could run either of those with just a beefy passive heatsink and possibly a cpu duct. Make sure that Maxtor drive has fluid bearings. I recommend putting some DynaMat or Sonex foam in the case, and use one of PC Power and Cooling's silent power supplies.

EDIT: I know that the original Radeon DDR (and Radeon 64 DDR) displaced so little heat that the heatsink can be passive.

get yourself any of these cases. they are the antec performance series cases. they are very well built (sturdy) and come with one of the quietest psu's out today.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked at the site, but no mention of decibels... In fact, I've even been to the Enermax website, where they claim extremely low noise but again quote no figures. Any websites (hushclockers? bwahahaha) where I can get comparative figures?

The reason I mentioned the bits is that these already exist. I'm not looking to buy anything new apart from the PSU and/or the case.
