Silencing your PC....

KenAF, I've had the same problem with silencing my PC - the cdrom drive.
There are programs you can download to limit the rpm of the drive, and I have mine limited to 4x instead of 52x.
Apparently there are some relatively quiet drives out there, but I've not run across one where I work, and i've seen probably 20 different models.

haha...that's insane.... my computer is quiet enough for me now... if it was off at night, i'd wake up cause i am so used to hearing the computer being on... it puts me to sleep... too quiet is not loud enough for me..

I agree, Sometimes when it's too quiet you start to hear things I rather hear the smooth noise of my computer than water driping or maybe wind tapping on the window glass (eek - that's freaky).

don't become too obsessed with building a silent PC. there are lots other things you can spend your money on. It's quiet enough, learn to stop.

The room my PC is in has almost no audible ambient noise. My computer is just about the only thing I hear. Its easy to get determined to silence it when its the only thing you hear. I work in a server room and I'm in a band, so silence is something I really appreciate after work, band practice, or a show.

Silence is one of those things...you don't know what you're missing until you have it, and once you have it, you can't live without it.

Yeah, and once you get going quieting things down it can become a never ending road, just like overclocking and system optimization. There is always more you can do.

Hi,
Does your Zalman ZM80A VGA Heatpipe Cooler gets real hot? Any problem with heating? Do you have any fan in the front of the case? My heatpipe cooler on the ATI 9700 Pro is very hot to the touch, I mean burning hot. Some told me hot on the heatsink means good heat transfer. I used Arctic Silver 3 instead of the silicon stuff that they gave me.
What is the case temp during gaming? Mine climb to 40C and CPU goes to 56C. I have the Asus P4PE. It was reported that this board does report higher temp than other boards. Also, the Asus board is also overvolt. Is my temps too hot? I was afraid that it would over heat. I also have the same CPU cooler as yours. I have the Antec KL3700AMB case which is similar to your case. But I use the Antec 430W True Power.

This looks like an answer to all of our prayers. Personally the Sunbeam Rheobus or similar devices would not work well for me since my computer sits a good distance away from me, tucked away under a desk. Getting to the front of the computer to adjust fan speed or insert a CD means moving a good three feet - and I'm too lazy to do that regularly!!!

An automated way of controlling fan speed seems an ideal solution - no more fiddling with knobs anymore!

Anyone used one yet???

Woah i work to make my PC quiet i dun need it silent though, a Raptor in an enclosure oh my... can u say melt down? Get a seagate barracuda v for silence, works great for me

I dont think so. At least I hope not. I am working on building a rubber HD enclosure like I saw at SPCR for both of my Raptors. They will have 5V 92mm and 80mm Panaflo L1As over them.

instead of spending $$$ on the acoustipak variant, i used foam sheets from fedex padded envelopes (free from their website), and a can of spray glue, $3.

with an old bicycle inner tube and a pair of scissors, i made rubber paddings and put them everywhere to
eliminate direct metal contact. beats paying for elastomer stuff.
