Signs that a drum needs to be replaced?

I have a Brother 5750 Laser Fax machine. I've replaced the toner on it a couple times, but not the drum. I'm just wondering, when should I replace the drum? Will there be visible signs like it not printing right?

usually you will start to have lines that are black, or things not clear, have shadows on the pages. no need to replace it till the copies look bad.
