Suggesting someone might be overlooking something isn't an accusation of ignorance. One can be quite knowledgeable on a wide variety of subjects while oblivious to others. Shinerburke is obviously paying attention though, as he agreed that people engage in racist behaviour reguarly. Furthermore, I could quote examples all day from this form to demonstrate as much. Suggesting I'm being closed minded for pointing out such easley demonstrable objective reality is absurd.
I don't use race as any guide for opinion, let alone as a baseline. Check a mirror.
You know I've said many racist things and watched/listened to many racist things, but I'm not going to apologize. I find it entertaining. Know who John Valby is? Hilarious stuff. He makes fun of everyone though so I don't think he's really a racist, but anyways god damn I love racism.

so everyone that I know who is greek or brazillian are racist because they have enormous amounts of pride in their countries (even though they live in the US)...

That is interesting in that the things it describes seem to very clearly apply to either the white racists, the Al Sharptons, or both.
I just wanted to pick that out... how would you explain certain medical problems being significantly more prominent in some races than others, even normalizing for the region? (ie: sickle cell in african americans, gallstones in native americans, etc)

It is something I came up with having tried a few variations on "J. Frost", the name I normally used back when I signed up, and all were taken. So, lacking creativity I named myself after the avatar I had already picked. I suppose I'll see if the mods might let me change it to avoid such confusion in the future.
I am a layman in the realm of biology, but I've heard before that such things really come down to common lineages rather what can rightly be defined as separate subspecies.
Bravo, OP. Racism might be evident only in behavior, but its origins are in thought and instinct, and progress is made in raising and thinking about the issues.
I find absurdity in the view some hold that racism is already a thing of the past or something that doesn't really matter, as it's far from that.
Truth is, it runs both ways, or rather n ways. Racism originates as a personal identification with a group to the exclusion of other groups, and there is no solution to it and its attendant problems than direct challenges to those associations, whether as against the point of view of an outsider towards another group, or perhaps more persuasively, from the point of view of an insider commenting against the associations those of his or her own group might make as an assumption.
Attacking racism as a group disorder fails in exactly this way, and in doing so provides the hint towards the broader solution -- non-association and universality.

As long as there are people of different races co-existing...there will be racism.
sure, we all would love to be able to stand in one big circle holding hands and singing the famous Coke jingle, but it ain't ever gonna happen...especially when people like to look for racism under every rock.
If you gotta look that hard for it, maybe you should find something better to do.

I did that MIT racism test. It detects preferences based on race. I am a 30 year old white male. I ended up with a preference for blacks. I guess I am racist against my "own" people. But I did marry a white woman so I guess I could over come my hatred of myself.
The author singles out the British while claiming that stereotypes based on country and race are wrong... I hope the irony is apparent to all... The British Empire conquered the world simply becasue they were capable of it, not becasue they were any more violent and racist than anyone else - if the Italians or the Japanese or any other powerful nation could have done it they would. You can find examples of terrible bigotry in every country in the world, including India I might add... 'untouchables'... sick.

I think a lot of you miss the point. Just because racism exists more-or-less universally, doesn't mean that it's OK. Rape exists everywhere as well, and in many places in the world at a greater rate than it does here. Does that mean we shouldn't try to prevent rapes, or prevent them here?
Historically, racism has been worse than it is now, but that doesn't mean that we should stop progressing. The police still hassle people of color; the judicial system still treats them unequally; they still get followed in stores because they're assumed to be thieves; and if you apply to a job with a "black-sounding" name, you are half as likely to get called back than someone with a European-American-sounding name and the same qualifications.
