Signs of Memory Problems??

I recently purchased a Mushkin green label 512mb PC2700 stick to go with my Crucial 256mb PC2700. It was recognized fine and after using it for a little over a week, haven't had any crashes. However, it just seems like my PC is running differently some how. Instead of being faster, it sometimes seems like there is a longer pause when opening programs. I haven't run Memtest yet, but wondered if it was necessary, or if my problem could be elsewhere. Sooooooo, to get to my title, besides your pc crashing, are their clear cut signs that tell you everything isn't all good with your memory? Maybe I'm just being paranoid and there really is no problem at all.

BTW, I'm running both sticks at the stock speeds and have a Dell Dimension 4550.

XP should utilize it fine, did you try some benchmarks and compare with the old setup? Maybe you just need to defragment.

Yeah, I did recently do a defrag on my one drive and it has seemed to help. What's now odd though is that I ran a PCMark2002 test last night and got a mem score of 6359, and when I run it now I get 5860?? Plus, it won't even test my Hard drives anymore. Really strange...

I guess I could just leave the stick of Crucial in and see what kind of scores get. Does the amount of MB affect the score or would having 256 or 786 give the same results provided the memory was the same quality??
