If there was something to get, you wouldn't have tried a bad one liner.

I've already indicated I understand you can't control the other person and things can go bad, which directly NEGATES your very first statement. I can only try so hard, you can't explain anything to a wall.

Tell me about it. Now you know how I feel! Did I do it right?

You don't have an argument, which is why you tried the taking the ball and going home method.

You subscribe to the superstitious method, where you feel that if you wish strong enough, it will become more likely to be reality.

The reality that women sometimes decide to become completely different people than they were a few years ago.

More like they did a good job of disguising the ugly reality of who they are until it was too late for the unfortunate men who married them.

I don't see the need to use generalities. Mine lasted 9 years and I had one of the most insanely favorable divorces ever...It also was over in 2 weeks flat.

That can happen, too, but I'm talking more specifically about good girls who decide they are missing out on life or even worse, naughty girls that 'find Jesus.'

In all honesty, I think it goes back to the ape-era of natural hormones/brain mechanics that tell them move on to the next dominant male... /shrug.

It's simple, Alky just values money over anything else. He's not unique. Many folks with money fear losing the control it gives them more than appreciate what it can not.

In reality, I was speaking more to giving my mate more control with her own funds.

Of course, I'd protect my assets.

If you don't have assets to lose (and an Xbox, PC, Home theater, a $10-20k car, and a few grand in the bank are not assets), then joint is fine and probably even dictated.

I have assets, but so does my fiancee. We make damn near equal paychecks. One we tie the knot where the dollar came from or where it went in our accounts makes absolutely 0 difference. Joint or not. Feel free to ask a legal expert on that one.

Assets before a marriage? You might have a case.

But meh, I'm normally a pessimist, and I would say the whole "protect your assets", but I can't walk into a marriage with that type of mindset.

I also stated I'm not saying I'm right and you're wrong, which indicates I'm not even arguing, thus never had an "argument". So you're at least right about one thing.

Depends greatly on whether or not your state is a community property state.

I don't think you really have assets bro.

If you did you'd have ALREADY had accounts.

You don't think we are talking about creating individual accounts after finding a girl right?

Many of us already had them.

Same here, and wife and I been together almost 20.

You guys are lying if in 16 - 20 years your joint accounts never caused issues or it's her that controls the money.

Shit I have my own accounts and occasionally either one of use do something joint that the other wasn't expecting. Paying a water bill twice and the like.

I handle the bills, occasionally my women have tried to help out when I am on the road or something.

I still pay the fucking bill on time.

Getting money back from these kinds of things is a PITA.

I solved the issue by not using banks at all. So if it's an account, it's hers.

Why not both? Have separate accounts, but create one joint account into which you both deposit money into for bills/expenses.

Not reading the whole thread.
JOINT. We are a single unit. We have to share goals financial and otherwise to succeed.

How does it work if one person makes significantly more than the other?
One drives a moped while the other has a Lexus?
One eats lentils while the other eats steak?
How do you pick where to live? The lower earner can't cover 1/2 of a super expensive place.

I think with kids it gets even more complicated.... pay for 1/2 their yearbook?

BUT - at the same time ... I am a big fan of whatever works for YOU. For some, joint works, others are separate ... I'm ok with that.
