Significance of beep codes on start-up

I know a few, but when I was asked to try a system a moment ago it let out8 beeps. Needless to say it failed to start!

Any ideas where I can get a list of beep codes from? or is there someone available now to enlighten me?

Thx in advance.

check the bios manufacture's website, but that sounds like a RAM problem to me, make sure the RAM is good and is populating the dimms correctly, and is snapped in securely.

If its an AMI bios (if they are all short beeps), then its a Display memory Read/Write test failure.

If its not a AMI bios then not sure. Only other bios I know that has that many beeps is Phoenix and it uses some kind of patterned beeping like beep pauses 3 beeps pause 4 beeps pause and then 1 beep. If thats the case then need the pattern to tell which error it is. \
