Signal degradation of Cat5?

I want to run about 100 feet of cat5 through my house down to my basement.. Shouldn't be any problems with reduced speeds at that distance should there? I really don't think so but I'd rather be sure. :)

100m is the rule of thumb limit. 100ft being about 1/3 that, you should be fine. Just try to avoid electrical wiring and telephone wiring as much as you can.

I agree; he's probably fine.

Fine point: the "100 Meter" rule only applies to solid-core cable. Stranded is much lossier and not likely to get anywhere near that.

The additional losses are compounded by any kinks, twists, compressions, violations of minimum bend radius, barrel connectors, etc.
