People in college who have time to be in a sorority or fraternity are wastes of humanity.

Ah yes, everyone should hole up in their dormroom studying all the time. Get a grip.

More like "If you aren't busy enough with real activities to preclude wasting your time in meaningless clubs you're not going to amount to much."

Meaningless clubs? I'm going to venture a wild guess and say that you are still in school and are vehemently anti-greek. You are aware that membership in these "meaningless clubs" looks good on resumes and if you hold offices in these "clubs" it shows leadership and initiative to potential employers.

Forget Sigma Phi Omega, I'd rather have Sigma Delta Tau (the big-breasted, jewish sorority).

But before all of them, probably Tri Delt or AEPhi.

I don't even consider resumes submitted to me with references to Greek activities. I'm interested in employing people with their minds on productivity and getting things done. Networking is not a priority for me - in my field (medical rehabilitation), it's mostly useless anyway.

Leadership and initiative is found in people who took extra hours to finish their degree a semester or year early and get their post-graduate work done earlier still. Being a "leader" amongst an organization that routinely encourages reckless health risks, elitist divisiveness, and other general nonsense is not an admirable attribute - only idealists and the naive think Greek life is working for them in the real world. Sure, it may get you favors from other "Brothers" if you happen to run into them, but judgement by association instead of ability is inherently a loss. Chase after it if you want.

Anyway, this subject is dead and gone. Keep prattling if you want. I'm done here.

Also: You can't fit a sorority girl inside the bowling ball

As far as the bolded statement, isn't that exactly what you're doing here

I don't even consider resumes submitted to me with references to Greek activities.

What a hypocrite.

Not necessarily. I suppose it's certainly a valid argument. It's common for "Greeks" to expect the association with their organization to put them ahead. I put it to the exact opposite use to demonstrate how pointless banking on that mechanic is.

Even if the person is in every other way well qualified, the fact that they associated with:

A) An organization involved with the kinds of activities most greek organizations are involved in (excluding the "we do community service and philanthropy!" cheerleading)

and

B) That "judge me by who I know" mechanic

Drops them right off my list. I'm not interested in people with those attributes, the willingness to do things like that. So I guess it's not so much judging based on association as judging based on decision to associate. A very fine line, I will admit, and I can see where you're coming from with your statement.

The only thing I would say in my defense there is that the entire purpose of reviewing a resume is to judge potential employees or colleagues. That's kind of the point. All I really see myself doing is refusing to accept their plea of "consider who I hang around with!" alongside their plea of "consider my skills!"

If they don't have enough foresight and respect for the position and duties involved in it to understand that no one cares about their friends in regard to a professional capacity, then they probably aren't going to be very effective in that capacity anyway.

I wouldn't in any means say my activity isn't a loss. I'm sure I've lost some qualified candidates because of it - a loss for both myself and my employer, and them. I don't see much hypocritical about that; it's a loss, but I'm willing to risk it. Generally a greater gain comes from looking at other candidates anyway.

Perhaps. I guess it depends on whether or not you consider my distinction valid. If you do choose to stick me as a hypocrite, I won't argue with you, but I will say two things:

1) Who isn't?

2) At least they might learn something from it.

some hotties but nothing special...I got freaked as most of the website above had chicks having the first letter "C" in their name.

based on what I saw...most of these girls are playing the game and then going home to study...a very few do both.

typical.

College the place where OMGNOMOM! profit!

try to make it more than a chick flashing her boobs to use your second bedroom with her guy. (long story short...he said it as, "she wouldn't have exposed herself if she didn't want me...I bet she hates him doing that to her" She went on to get free stuff from "Mr. She is my Muse" guy.
