Norcross woman mauled by pet pit bull.

An autopsy on Tuesday determined that a 52-year-old woman found dead had been mauled by one of seven pit bulls living in her Norcross home.

The medical examiner determined that Flora Lubin, who suffered from epilepsy, did not suffer a seizure. Instead, she died from sharp force trauma to the neck.

Yuck.

SIGH Numerous studies have shown The american pit bull terrier not anymore prone to biting than any other dog..

It's not the breed but the damage capabilty. All terreirs are aggesive But Bulldogs are very capable for their size.

You know, I know there's some truth to that, but at the same time my personal experience with dogs (I was a vet tech for a few years) taught me to really watch out for certain breeds. Honestly, chows, akitas, shar-peis, and dalmations (Yes, dalmations. They're mostly crazy as hell) are worse than pits are. You just never hear about people being mauled by the family golden retriever.

EDIT- another part of the problem is stupid dog owners with no idea how to properly train the damn things. This woman obviously knew jack/squat about dogs.

Actually the golden retreiver or lab I forget which is the #1 biter... I will be editing with a link shortly ....

I worked at a rescue network for fighting dogs (90% pitbulls) and think they are wonderful animals just misunderstood...and again very capable it's very dangerous if put into the wrong hands.. hell all dogs are for that matter. They have big teeth, see movement about 50X better than us, and are faster.

pit bulls, like any breed, require love and attention. I'd be willing to bet that she did not raise the pit bull who did the mauling from birth. Pets, including pit bulls, are more docile and friendly if brought up in a loving home from the time they are puppies. Friend of mine had a rottweiler that was so protective of their owners and friends. She would growl if anyone but people that she knew and trusted approached the basinet that had the families baby.

Sorry to the woman's family and all...never really heard of anyone keeping pit bulls in doors before either

I think that pit bulls have been getting a bad rep and now people like you are just perpetuating that myth. A lot of what dogs do have to do with their master and the way the dog was brought up. Sure some dogs have a higher tendency to bite but biting doesn't mean mauling. I've lived with a pit bull terrier for four years now and she's the sweetest most obedient dog I've ever met. She would never even think of harming us.

I know they can be if you have a competent owner. Hell, one of the other techs had a pit and he was a great dog. It's just that for the average (read: utterly ignorant) owner, these kinds of breeds are terrible pets since they will assert themselves as alpha-dog unless you are firm with them. Once this is established, it's just a matter of time until they tear someone up for whatever reason.

Btw what is a pit bull? The press groups any dog with a short coat and good lean muscle phisyque as one. there is no breed standard since it's a performance breed so looks don't matter. Almost every 3rd dog could be classified as a bullbawg.

My Collie is big, strong and has very good teeth, physically similar to a German Shepherd. He could rip apart a human if he wanted to. But when was the last time you heard of someone being mauled by a Collie?

Here is a prett good link citing numurous studies....

A 6-year study in Palm Beach County of "most severe dog bite by breed" shows the top 10 breeds who have been identified in this comparison.

1988: APBT ranked 9th w/9 per cent of bites
1989: APBT ranked 5th w/15 per cent
1990: APBT ranked 5th w/16 per cent
1991: APBT ranked 9th w/10 per cent
1992: APBT ranked 2nd w/20.4 per cent (w/cocker spaniel showing in 1st)
1993: APBT ranked 5th w/16 per cent

Some of the breeds which placed above the Pit Bull's were Dalmations, Chows, Labs, Goldens, Rotties, Dobermans, and the Cocker Spaniel.

In a 1993 study, also in Palm Beach County, the bites were ranked by severity from 1 to 4 and the animal that was recorded as having inflicted the greatest number of severe bites was the domestic short-haired cat. A breed labeled as "pit bull" was in 5th place, following cat, German Shepherds, Chow and Lab.

Actually, yes. Cat bites are really bad since they have all kinds of nasty bacteria in their mouth and their needle-like teeth do a very good job of inoculating these bugs into your tissue when they bite you. Small wound closes over quickly, bacteria have nice anaerobic environment to do their thing and BAM.....your hand swells up like a grapefruit. Sucks, trust me.

LOL Of couse these studies have flaws since they don't include ownership percentages which is needed for an acurate percetage bites/percentage ownership mumber. However cats are basically free to roam in most communities so I'm not surprised the numbers are higher.

Anyway the basic fact remains compared to any dog, a pure breed game pit bull is extemly potent and should'nt be owned by most novices or weak willed individuals. I hope and think that was fausts point by posting this not sensationalism.

LOL...actually dachshunds are about the worst of the small breeds. The vet I worked for used to refer to them as "buzzsaws". 😛

Is that why my cat's breath smells like cat food?

Nobody seems to find it odd that she had SEVEN of these things in her house?!?!?!

[edit]Just saw that 5 of them were pups...

They were probably named Brutus, Killer, Chopper (sic balls), Satan, Bonesaw, and Mike Tyson.

If you asked her before she died, she would have said, "I had no idea they were dangerous."

Dangerous dogs are never named fluffy.

HEY dont knock Pit Bulls. my sister has one and its by fdar teh nicest dog ive ever met. it dosent bark at anything. even other dogs. he just sniffs them and moves on.

its not the dog its how teh dog is treated that make them mean. if your nice to them and treat them with love and affection they are fine.

EDIT- another part of the problem is stupid dog owners with no idea how to properly train the damn things. This woman obviously knew jack/squat about dogs.

Exactly🙂 Consistancy and training are a must for any strong willed breed. I use the Koeler (sp) methos who trained all of Walt Disney pictures animals. Considered a little heavy on the negative reenforcement side by todays standards but to me it's worth it to not have a leash ever. Even at the vets office my dog heals without fault.
