*sigh* My turn...

Well... my wife and I had it out a couple of nights ago... one really contentious point was the amount of time I spend working on PCs. In no uncertain terms, I was told that I need to change my ways and devote more time to family, which is, I recognize, how it should be. While I haven't been totally negligent, I do see that I spend far too much time on my hobby and really need to devote more time to more important areas of my life.

So:

[*]My participation in this forum is likely to decrease to a trickle.
[*]My participation in the projects will continue, however I expect my numbers may drop. Most of my machines are tucked away in empty cubicles at work and I tend to them as required at work.
[*]D2OL stats will continue on weekdays as I generally do them from work anyway, however the stats postings are likely to be very sporadic on weekends and holidays.
[*]Work on the stats server will continue. I apparenly need a new PSU as this one seems to be just a bit underpowered despite working fine at home. Code changes will be slow and bringing on new DC projects will vary in time depending on how similar they are to existing projects. On the list (after getting the server up) is fixing the DPAD stats

In short, I gotta get my crap together and this is where it has to start.

Geoff

Indeed, it sounds like we've heard this before on these boards. We're sorry to see less of you, but I'm sure your family will love seeing more of you.

Tell your wife I kindly greet her and hope you'll be able to spend some with us.

Well it sounds like you have a good plan and you know what you have to do. Do it and take care of yourself and your family as those are the things that are really important. I'm sure everyone will agree, we will always be here for you!

I pray you have a better outcome that has befallen some of us including me.

Best wishes to you and yours and like others have said here, the lights will always be on for you.

I'm sorry to hear this, Geoff.

I hope that you can get things sorted out with your wife and kids soon 🙂

I would like to thank you again for all the awesome work you have put towards DC projects, the forum, and especially tastats.com (which is propogated across, just waiting for the server to be up and running) 🙂

Take your time, and we will always be here to welcome you back 🙂

Take care.

Garry

Just look at it the positive way: you still WILL be participating in these forums and in DC in general. Others had to quit completly to get their lives back on line! So, good luck for and your wife and don't mind about the stats on the weekends man, I guess we can just nag on a piece of wood untill we get our fix on Monday again!! 😉

You have your head on straight, or so it sounds. Family comes before ANY hobby.
Take care of business with the family, because you always know that we are here
for you. Thanks for all you do,

Hay

This reminds me of a country song I heard a while back. It goes a little something like this:

You gotta know when to hold'em
Know when to fold'em
Know when to walk away
Know when to run...

This kinda applies to DC. You start slow, build up to fold the max you can, then you walk away from it because it's start's taking away from family. Finally, if you can't stop, you have to run away from it altogether cause you're addicted.

Good luck dealing with your addiction.

Good luck dealing with your addiction.

Addiction! What addiction? I am got no stinkin addiciton! Well, maybe a little, it is not that bad! I can stop if I have to. I just don't want to. 😕

I keep wondering when my wife is going to start complaining. But, I'd much rather be on the computer than sitting in front of the TV, which is what she does.

Good luck and God bless you and your's GeoffS! Your family has been through a lot in the past few years and you dont't need this adding to your worries. Thanks for all you have done! Iam sure someone will step up and take up the slack.

If you tell me she's watching Will & Grace reruns or Trading Spaces, I'd have to believe our wives are related!

Thanks for the kind words all... you all make up a wonderful group of people that I truly enjoy associating with!

Geoff

You're still here?

Get on outta here!

Take care of that family. That comes first!

Best of luck to ya, Geoff!

Hehe Geoff's at work now and what thw wife don't know won't hurt him 😀

After 21 years of marriage to a fine lady that has understood the need to sit in front of the computer screen and spending most of that time doing just that, I can honestly say I wish I had done it differently. And to think of the influence it has had on our kids....the eldest just spent their summer vacation playing on the home computer network even though we tried to convince them to go take a drive in the country or do something even if it was wrong...

the grandkid went to corpus with a friend...did she even spend time at the beach? nooooo...they spent their time and money at the computer cafe...and when the money was gone, wanted to come home.

we did have one kid that wanted to get away...we tagged along and "discovered" Arkansas - and didn't even make it to the pretty part - but decided that roaming the hills and chilling at the lake was a lot more fun that talking to you guys! (nothing personal of course)...at first I was upset with her for doing it, but LEAVE THE LAPTOP AT HOME PEOPLE...

so anywho, the secret of course, it take a BUNCH of digital pics so when you get home you get to use the computer to do something with them...making memories is a heck of a lot more fun that making prime numbers...

ps: and I might add, before it's too late...we looked up and sure 'nuff...it almost is...

Hey Geoff! Thanx for everything you have done for the TeAm, we all really appriciate it mate! 😉

Good luck with getting things in order and hope everything works out great for you! 😀 Oh and don't be a stranger...😉

It's good that the problem was caught before it got out of hand. We may miss seeing you quite so much, but your family surely will not - and that's a good thing. 🙂

Oh Gawd! Trading Spaces!! My wife will not miss not even
one of those shows. And our house is still a wreck!

Best of Luck,
Hay

Mine must be related genetically too ...

Trading Spaces
In A Fix
Ground Force
Airport
Mission Organization
Oprah Winfrey
The Amazing Race (ugh!)
Survivor ad nauseum
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy
Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis
Enterprise
CSI ...
NCIS

Of course, my favorite TV Shows are

Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis
Enterprise
NCIS
CSI ...
Poker
NFL Football
and clasic movies without commercials (like Fox Movie Channel or TCM or Action Channel)

.... so I tend to do my computer stuff while she watches her shows and be with her when my shows are on.
