Sigh, I'm a racist...

My topic title pretty much self-explanatory; and by that, I mean, just the mere mention of home-buying and race should produce some memories of those who already went through the process of buying a home.

This issue of race shouldn't matter, yet I find myself scouring through local school test scores + demographics of each community. They play such a HUGE HUGE role in what community I choose for my future place of residence. (future potential value, quality of living, etc etc..)

I must play the institutionalized racism game. It's just the way it is, and I can't help but to accept it (despite its negative connotations/bad PC/blah). hehe oh well.

A very successful latino or black dude must find it very difficult to go into a high-property-value neighborhood.

I've read about this in College, but never really put too much thought into it.
It really hit me with a ton of bricks when I found myself helplessly playing along.

I've always thought of myself as tolerant and respectful of others. I also thought pulling the racecard is such a BS/cop-out move.
Damn... As someone living in such a multi-cultural area as San Diego, I can CLEARLY see the obvious subdivisions. Institutionalized racism is here to stay. *queues up Chocolate Rain*

*not a rant, just an observation.*
*Please, no flame wars.*
*I'm not trying to offend the people here who spite minorities because minorities pull the race-card and it's making them sick. Just stating the obvious, and nothing more.*

EDIT: heh, Coffee is a bitch. Bear with me as I clear this post up. It should be a lot clearer as the day goes by. I'm being stupid and multitasking+neffing at the moment.
I'm trying to clear it up to the best of my limited ability. I am having an aura attack. The caffeine isn't helping. I get Aphasia once Aura/Migraine kicks in. Fuck, I feel like a goddamn retard whenever the stupid aura/migraine comes knocking on my head. I'm fucking educated, yet this stupid condition devalues my worth as a human being. :|

Are you talking about lower class minorities moving in and ruining the neighborhood?

As they said back in the day "Put on your sweater vests and flee to suburbia!"

It would only be racist if there were two neighborhoods with equal test scores, equal crime, and equal wealth, and you refused to live in the "minority" neighborhood based soley on race.

If its between a ghetto and a nice suburb, it is not racist to want to stay away from the bad one.

It's not racist to look at and analyze the statistics(they don't lie) when making big decisions and purchases. I have no issue at all with race but I am in a similar situation. My son who is 7, hangs out with a bunch of Black kids at school in his class. That is fine, but it is having a horrible affect on how he talks, we have to hear and put up with all kinds of ridiculous slang talk. It is to the point where I am considering a different school.

I read that whole post and I have no idea what the hell you said. I thought it was going to be about you not wanting to buy a house in a primarily minority area because the schools stink.

you're not racist, you're intolerant. And there is nothing wrong with being intolerant no matter what the PCers and media want you to believe.

Am I alone in thinking that post was pretty incoherent? 😕 (Edit: clearly I wasn't)

I can proudly say that race didn't even enter my mind when looking at houses. But I'm white and live in a upper-middle class area, so all of the neighborhoods here are dominated by white people (with a significant asian minority). 😛

Sorry dudes, I'm trying to clear it up to the best of my limited ability. I'm multitasking at work, and having an aura attack. The caffeine isn't helping. I get Aphasia once Aura/Migraine kicks in. Fuck, I feel like a goddamn retard whenever the stupid aura/migraine comes knocking on my head. I'm fucking educated, yet this stupid thing devalues my worth as a human being. :|

if you base it on race then yea its racist. I have seen areas with poor white people and they had bad crime, trash everywhere, etc...

Are you sure you are comparing race and not income level? My neighbors on one side are black the other white. I have asian, blacks, whites, etc... on my road. Yet houses are for the most part in good shape and little to no crime and NO HOA!!! 🙂

I think income levels are what really divide people these days, and race is a holdover that everyone notices. There are plenty of poor white people and rich black people. And you often see black people and white people living in the same community, at all levels (not always, but often). But when was the last time you saw a neighborhood with a huge variation in economic class?
