*sigh* I just dont get what the problem is...

I've been banging my head on this one for the better part of the day.

Upgraded main PC with new parts
Took apart WHS machine.
Took old guts from main PC (Opteron 165, DFI Lan Party NF4, 2x1GB Adata RAM) and put into WHS machines case/PSU
Installed just CPU/RAM/MB (standby LED on MB is on)
Try to boot. Nothing. No fan spin.
Unscrew from case, try booting out of case (in case of grounding issue) nothing.
Mess around re-seating front panel pins. Remove front panel pins (MB has on-board reset/power switches) and still nothing except standby power LED.
Wile I'm fidgeting around CPU fan starts to spin, MB diagnostic LEDs start to light up, looks fine. POwer it down. bolt into case. Nothing.
Ugh. Unbolt. Nothing. Fidget around... CPU fan starts to spin, MB diagnostic LEDs start to light up, looks fine.

This is a KNOWN working MB, CPU, RAM and PSU. All working pulls only days removed.

I don't get this. This is when I absolutely hate computers.

I'm guessing its a problem with the MB itself. A short or something as it seems the old MB/ZCPU/RAM combo that was in the WHS machine still works. I just don't when or why the DFI motherboard would have gone bad. Suggestions? Sympathy?

I would bet on the MB being bad, so I would either RMA or buy a new one. Maybe it's not completely bad, but there seems to be some loose connection somewhere.

It just seems so impossible. It had been working fine for years. Pulled it, put it on shelf for 3-4 days and now this? Ugh.

Sounds like a bad cable or socket. You're not "fidgeting around" with the power on are you?

LOL no. Power plugged always pulled when my hands are in the case.
The bad news is through all the swapping and fidgeting, I have now broken a pin on my butt-kicking Opteron. R.I.P.

That's a drag. Well, sounds like it's time for a new rig. 😀
I'm hoping my new GPU shows up today so I can get my main box going again.

Well I just did a new rig.\ I was planning on tossing my old parts into my WHS machine, and it would be enough to playback 720p then via XBMC and I could then get rid of 1 machine in my house.

Now I gotta find a cheap MB/CPU setup that can playback 720p content. Whatya think min CPU would be for that?

There's a combo at Newegg that my wife has (the machine I'm posting from) that has been trouble free and plays 720p and 1080p just fine.
