Actually it does, most patients who get a block end up with a hemidiaphragm. In most cases it doesnt affect anything as accessory muscles can take over, but in someone with lung disease its pobably best avoided. It should be fatal at any rate, as long as the person is monitored and ventialtion can be supported.

ok i'm back.

got in pre-op at 6:am. got shaved and a IV.
ansthesalogist came to talk to me with my doctor at 7am. explained what they were going to do. iwould get knocked out with shot in IV then a breathing tube after sugery hr did the block
nurse wheeled me in the operating room at 7:10 out at 10:20
got home at 1 and took a nap

my side is still numb (so little pain) only bad part is i itch all over and scratching dose not help and i have to type one handed

The itching is from the fentanyl (and possibly morphine) they used during the case, it should go away pretty soon, you can take some benadryl if it gets too bad. Before going to bed, take some pain medication whether or not youre having any pain. Chances are the block will wear off overnight and its easier to keep the pain down before it gets too bad.

holly crap do i itch. i itch on the side of my neck and shoulder. i can't scratch it because its still numb. damn its driving me nuts and i can't sleep sigh.

edit: holly hell. i went in for phsycial therapy today. what a painful thing to do. only good part is my therapist is a cute women around 26 also she is training a really cute college girl about 22.

but man it hurt. the surgery was ok but man physical thereapy was not fun. thank goodness for norco 5/325 (whatever that is)
