Good luck - I've had more surgeries than I care to count, and it's never fun.

Ask your anesthesiologist for an interscalene block. Theyll inject a bunch of local anesthetic into your neck to numb up the nerves that go to your arm. Youll have a dead arm (but will feel no pain) for about 24 hours or so. Only takes about 5 minutes or so, you might have a droopy eye for a day or so and if you have any lung or bleeding problems you probably shouldnt get one, but otherwise it works really well. Its better to get it before the procedure because if youre in a lot of pain afterwards, it's more difficult to place. Heck, you can even be awake during the procedure if you like.

<-- Anesthesiologist.

Theres like a 98% chance you'll get relief. Relax. It really isnt horrible for very long.

I fell off a roof, on the way down my arm went between the sheeting and the facia and gave me a good yank before flipping me and dropping me about 15 feet on a rock retaining wall. After the accident I couldnt so much as get my wallet out of my back pocket. I would wake up in the middle of the night with my arm over my head and be stuck until I could wake my wife to lift my arm.

I had the sugery. Within 6 months I was doin everything I did before the surgery. Within a year it was nearly as strong as before my accident. Now several years later I can't even tell I had it done.

It'll help.

the doctor said the first 1-3 months are rough. but the 6 month mark is the big one. i guess i can put up with a few months of pain to get over it heh.

couldn't that potentially compromise the phrenic nerve? that could be potentially fatal.... especially with someone who's got a chronic collapsing lung and a bad obstructive respiratory disorder.

(the phrenic nerve is what innervates your diaphragm, which helps you breathe)

i would rank that one of the top things to NEVER DO AGAIN.

the collapsed lung is bad enough. but them shoving the tube in is even worse. that hurt very very bad. it feels like they shove it into the lung heh

yo, don't listen to the guy who said to get the shot in your neck to numb your brachial plexus. it sounds too dangerous for a dude like you.

(you're in my prayers)
