Are you expecting some kind of showdown? She clearly can't speak English so she probably won't be able to read what we are saying about her.

I am expecting either hookers and blow or hilarity ensuing. Maybe even a nuke from orbit. Or she'll ignore the email.

Sadly we will miss out because the directions for registering are written in normal English.

You do realize that there is more than one style manual floating about, right? <--- Is that comma bad too, because there aren't two in the sentence?

When I was in school commas always followed parentheses in sentences for Englishy type projects. Science teachers and the like had their own rules, and history, soc, and psych types had yet another way of correctly doing stuff, and of course JOURNALISM is a flavor of the month affair. Personally I always thought it was strange and extra work mashing all that punctuation together, but after enough red marks, I am now become clone.

So the question here is; do two ironies make a satire?

HOLY SHIT A SEMICOLON. DUCK!

Sorry, sweetie, no matter how much you shuck and jive and whine and 'splain, your sentence making fun of others' grammar that I referenced contained a SIMPLE AND STUPID grammatical mistake.

And now, dumbbonics boy, allow me to point out yet another!

So the question here is; do two ironies make a comedy or tragedy?

Your mistaken use of a semi-colon here reinforces your standing as the "Dim Don of Dumbbonics!"

A semi-colon separates two independent phrases, each of which can stand alone a complete sentence.

 "So the question here is" cannot!

EPIC FAIL FOR YOU!

In fact it was an attempt to treat people as non-native English speakers so they could be put into ESL classes and taught more effectively (that is if you're referring to the Okland incident). Seems like the opposite of feel-good to me. If someone told me that the language I'm speaking is not recognizable as English, I don't think I'd feel good about it.

Sure it can, if Sphinx is referring to the question existentially. :D

By golly, I am going to admit an error here, but I do have a shabby defense. I did originally write that sentence with the parenthetical portion after "speak English". I do not recall why I moved it, but when I did I should have removed the comma.

The semicolon was intentional; was "shuck"?

I know you were going for a pun there, but, Honey, your slips are showing. ;)

Aw shucks! This is your third straight swing and miss.

No batter, no batter, no batter.

Today, the expression [shuck and jive] has expanded somewhat from earlier usage, and is now sometimes used to mean "talking pure baloney," "goofing off," or "goofing around." The original meaning of deceit often remains, however.
