I just like wearing it and I NEVER LOSE MY KEYS. When my roommate brings his digital camera, I'll show you a better picture of it. AND NO IT DOESN'T HAVE A PURSE. BTW, it makes a good whipping and choking device too I might add.

Next time I see you on campus, I'm gonna point and laugh. "Hey that's that crazy 10lanyard dude from anandtech!" 🙂

I've been wearing it since junior year of high school and collecting them ever since. I really don't give a damn what you might say. I've heard all the comments.

*update 2*
OK. the BMW is at the dealer right now. We spoke w/the parts dept, and it will cost a total of $500 to get everything done -- locks changed, new keys, etc etc.

We have to contact the insurance company and see waht we can get done on it.

In order to get all this stuff done, we have to have the registration for the car. Luckily we just got it and it's at home instead of in the car (which we are locked out of).

In any case, this still sucks, but at least we have some hope to get this situation resolved. Hopefully insurance will pay for this, and this can just be a huge time waster and hassle for us. When I get back from the dealer this afternoon, another update will be posted.

take it easy man. 🙂 I'm sure everyone is just joking around and giving you a hard time. 🙂

i hope everything works out.

in hawaii, i was playing football with some friends and locals of the island. while we were playing, some kids stole 2 of my friends' wallets. we knew who the kids were and when the local police came we told them everything we knew. thing is, all the police could do was to talk to the kids. as you probably guessed, they just denied the whole thing and that was the end of that.

This is what I know (might be wrong tho):

Every BMW has 8 keys made:
1 master
1 master
1 valet
1 thin plastic flat key that u can keep in your wallet
(these 4 are given to you when you take possession of the car)

the rest 4 are with BMW (I am not sure why they would be in Germany tho)
yep, you are correct. when you leave the lot with your bmw, they give you 4 keys. 2 master's, the wallet one, and the valet (a small, little gray key).

i have to go to the dealership right now.

keys were stolen story. (not interesting story):
we had a neighborhood party, a small get together for post Thanksgiving. my g/f has known all the neighbors for decades. THey've been over so many times, and nothing has ever happened. However, one of the neighbors has some deadbeat kids, and they came to the get together this time. THese kids are in their mid 20's, no college degrees, no jobs, and smoke pot all day.

So the keys were upstairs, and upstairs is off limits to the party. I had just got the car windows tinted, and I was in the midst of consolidating my bmw keys.

After the party was over, i went to try and find my keys, but they were missing. They were sitting on the bookshelf upstairs in the study. i know EXACTLY where i put them.

The only people that would have taken them are the hoodlum kids. all the other neighbors have been over so many times, and nothing has ever happened. the one time these kids come over, we have stuff missing. Coincidence? I think not. But i cannot prove anything. 🙁

We told the police about this, and they will be talking to the kids and parents.

AGH!
OK i hope that is sufficient enough for an update. I will keep you all updated.

This sucks!

You see, if you were carrying your keys or in my case, "carrying them on my lanyards", this wouldn't have happened. Should have locked the door upstairs.

You're probably right. My friends think I'm too serious all the time. They think I'm the only person who can keep a straight face all the time. My roommate's gf is mentally challenged and started singing and dancing to Digimon music. My roommate and his friend couldn't help it but laugh out loud. I, on the other hand, kept a straight face the entire time. It was funny, but not to the point where I laugh my ass out.

$500 isnt as bad as i expected... but you better watch your car now... its probably going to get keyed by those people you suspect...

instead of a weapon, i will have my 6D cell maglite at my camcorder!!

i will get them on tape and blind them! Then if need be, i can defend myself w/my 6D maglite!
ehehhehe

OH NO RUFIO!!!! What a headache... any word on whether your insurance co. will help you out? That really sucks, I'm sorry... hopefully you find out who did it so I can smack them silly. 🙂 *hugs*

*NEWUPDATE!!!*

So FINALLY after all the run around, paperwork, and hoops and hassles we went through..

INSURANCE IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT!! 100%!!!

WOo hoooo!!!!

So it was all worth it! We saved over $1000!

The dealer was like, "woah, insurnace never pays for this kind of stuff!". But I guess we got lucky, and they are going to pay for it.

I am very happy. Now I can use that $1000 and buy some kickass gifts!

 for all!!

What about the thieves?

Thought about el-cheapo X10 security cameras? 😀

bleh.

thieves will have what's coming to them in the end.

x10...not a bad idea..

i think i will go Lone Gunman style and get all these cameras rigged up at our new condo. 😀

Wow. All these expensive replacement keys. Replacement keys for my van are $0 if you bring your own blank, and $1 if you don't. Complete re-keying, changing everything to a different combination is about $200, or $50 if you change everything but ignition. 1980's lock tech > you and your stupid electronic keys. I could also do a pushbutton ignition with relatively little work.

glad everything worked out. it's the worst losing a key, but getting em stolen in your own house! but again, i'm glad everything worked out.

but no one wants your POS. You could leave the keys in there and people wouldn't touch it.
