Tribes 1 and 2 were friggin' amazing games. Shifter for both was definitely my favorite.
LOL I would spend all this time making kickass base defenses, only to have a jugger toss a nuke or two in there and hose it all! After that, I'd get an Encampment (AKA filth bather), go way around to the enemy base and place it in a valley or somewhere close but out of sight. Then I'd set up a few sensors or turrets, a jump pad, and cloak it all. Then I'd switch to Juggernaut with a nuke, heavy plasma, etc, hit the jump pad, and wipe out the enemy base and any enemies there! But what was so cool about Tribes, was that was just one of many roles that I liked to play.
I know it has been a long time, and there might only be a couple hundred active players today, but can the master server really be that much for them to keep up? I don't know how new games do it, but all those old games used a browser to query the master server for servers to play on. So they already own the hardware, probably older hardware that isn't much use for new things, and can the bandwidth for a master server that serves a few hundred players a day really be that much? Yeah it costs them a little, but just to support such a great game and loyal community, I think they should keep it up till it is dead.
What is with them not giving out T2 keys anymore?? I believe they still give Tribes 1 keys, or it is just free, but they stopped with T2 keys. It sucks because I bought T2 at like launch and still have it, but can't remember my account info, so I can't play. The game isn't sold at retail anymore... why not make T1 and T2 free, as a tribute for such great games, and to raise the number of active players (aka bring in a bunch of noobs that get owned by Tribes vets).
