Seems like a hot deal to me, but I know squat about routers. I've been needing to get one so I can stop paying the extra charge for an additional IP addy to the cable company.
Anyone have any experience with this one?

The rebate is not handled by TCA @ New Rochelle, NY so it's definitely a hot deal w/ this kind of price.
Robdalton: I have their 4-port model (SS2614) and it's been working flawlessly. I think SpeedStream routers are made by the same OEM manufacturer that makes SMC routers so it should be somewhat reliable.

i got one of these today - 2 ports are fine ...if you only need it for 2 computers, but you can also use it as an extension cord - attach a huge cable from the jack to the router...and another cable to the computer

People use 1 and 2 port routers for their firewall capabilities on a single computer, and this model does a very good job of blocking intrusions to the system.

I have this 2-port router. Its been up and running for 10 months now without any problems. (Got it from CompUSA last year) Excelent for small network, and for sharing broadbad access. Works flawlessly. Easy access and setup. Great firewall and DHCP IP addressing. I've had Win 98, 2000 server, and XP Pro machines connected to my network using the Siemans router.

Like Jugernot said... if you want to expand your network, you can always add a hub or switch to the router.

A warning about the rebate: If you purchase more that one Siemens network product that's on the rebate form they will only send you a rebate for one item. Last time Compusa had this deal I bought the router and the NIC. They sent me the check for the NIC (the lowest $ value) and didn't do anything about the $20 router rebate. I had to go back and complain to Compusa who paid me the $20.

These are very poor performers. I used to have a 3000/1000 DSL line and this router cut it down to less than 1500/400. And when I activated its port forwarding feature it slowed down even more. I paid ~$40 for it at microcenter and forgot to send the rebate in, and would feel guilty pawning it off on another human being.

If your line's only 768/128 or so it'd probably be okay..

The router works fine except I can't get MSN Messenger file send or voice to work even if I put one of the computers into DMZ. Maybe it's just MSN.
Interestingly the lights remain on the router when I plug in a computer with a linksys card w/w2k even when the computer is off. Plug in a computer with w98se and a netgear card and the lights on the router shut off when that computer is off. I dunno why..
As for speed. Haven't run a test yet but after reading one of the previous posts I will.

I got the router today, hooked it up and had it up and running immediately. I tested the speed and it was as high as ever. But if I ever have any problems i'll just remember that i paid ~$13 (after rebate) for a good router.

If memory serves me, this router has an MTU internally set in its firmware at 1412 which will affect broadband performance. The router MTU setting overides any higher level you may set in your registry, but lower settings can overide the router setting. An MTU of 1400 improved performance.

I could not find any way of changing the internal MTU setting.

Hmm, that's not good. Why would they make it inconfigurable? PPPoE DSL is supposed to be at 1492 MTU.
