I am having trouble getting windows to recognize my sidewinder 3d pro with my soundblaster pci512, it also doesnt work in a friend's sblive value digital, however it does work in my old pentium pro 180 which has a ensoniq soundscape vivo 90 in it. My Sidewinder game pad does work in all of these computers. Tried this in windows 2000, windows 98se and me. Used the patch for this from microsoft's site also...any ideas?

I have the same problem. My solution I'm afraid is going to be replace it. I have an older PCI64. Considering I bought that joystick 5 years ago, I think I can say I got my money's worth out of it.

Mine does the same thing, so I don't use it anymore. Go buy a Precision Pro USB, & sell the 3D Pro over in FS/FT.

End of problem.

Before you give up and buy something else you might want to check the Microsoft Knowledge Base. There have been some serious issues concerning Creative joystick port drivers and Win98. It involves dll's from Creative and Microsoft with the same name but different functions. Duuring an install or trouble shooting one can be replaced with the other and everything goes to the worms.

From http://www.microsoft.com/products/hardware/sidewinder/downloads/default.htm

"This updated SideWinder 3D Pro driver may solve the problem of the 3D Pro showing as 'not connected' on some newer computer systems."

The keyword in that line is may. The patch didn't work for me, so I sold my Sidewinder 3D Pro :p

I asked an engineer I knew who worked for Microsoft gaming devices department to find out about this problem. In general, this problem is "complicated". :p Not much help, but not much hope either. He ended up giving me one of eight Sidewider Precision Pro's he had lying around in his office :)

While it may not work for everyone, my solution was to use the 2.0 Sidewinder software with my Monster Sound M80. The 3.X stuff broke it(and the "patch" didn't help), but the 2.0 drivers worked fine.

Before you give up, try telling Windows that it's a Logitec Wingman Extreme, then calibrate. That has been working for me with the good ol' 3D Pro (my favorite, I have three plus one for parts) and my SBLive Value.
