Sid Meier's Pirates!

Recieved great reviews from everyone...... I never played the original.

But honestly, I don't find it to be THAT good... The E for everyone tells you it must be somewhat comical, and thats the truth. Sometimes I think im watching a Disney movie. But.... I am still playing it, so it cant be that bad.

But it makes me wonder.. Why doesnt a company make a realistic Pirates game, like Rome:Total War but for the pirating era around 1600? Itd be great to have the guns blaze in realistic graphics and realistic sailing conditions and manuevering. interesting.

I just wrapped up a career on Adventurer difficulty, earning 102 fame points, and basically having done everything possible in the game. Now I'm about to start another game. Why? Because there's limitless replay value.

The game is a blend of elements: real-time hand to hand combat, real-time sea battles, turn based warfare, trade, a sliver of politics, and some good old plundering. You can take part in as many or as few of these activies as you wish, with the only real requirement is that you do what you like.

I don't see the game as lacking anything because you don't see people losing limbs in swordfights or have blood splattered over every wall, and at this point, I've actually played Pirates! more than HL2.

Different games, different tastes, each pure genius in their own area.

The original Pirates! was a classic because of the multitudes of game play styles and the extreme replay value. The remake hits back at those same points, even adding new elements to the game play, and then blending in new 3D graphics. Had they taken the game in any other direction, it wouldn't have been the same Pirates! and people would have been screaming bloody murder at the butchering of a classic.

Strong point.

If you hadn't played the original, I can see why you're a bit disappointed. I think it's more aimed to the young adults that played the original, instead of the children that haven't seen an NES outside of the smithsonian.

Are you talking about Pirates! or Pirates! Gold? The gold version is on Amiga CD32 and Genesis and is one bloody good game. Wish there were more trading games like this, not just the ones set in space I mean.
