How much can I get a water cooling kit for new and used? How reliable are they also are D-Tek's good brand? I would love to quiet my PC down alot more. Most of the sound is coming from my CPU fan. I am using a Taisol copper based heatsink(the one with the 3 prong clip) with a Thermal Take fan. My temps stay below 47c so they are decent temps.

Is there a heatsink/fan combo that works great out there(thats quiet)? Or how cool does the XP+ CPU's run? I have a 1.4 Athlon and if the XP CPU's run alot cooler I might upgrade a tad.

Alpha PAL 8045 or Thermalright AX-7 with Panaflo L1A will quiet that computer down.

I've got the AX-7 - Panaflo combo on my xp1800 and it's great. I had a thermaltake hsf that was loud as hell, now the loudest thing is my video card fan :).

Definitely go with the XP's. The Tbird 1.4ghz is probably the hottest CPU per clock among CPU's.

I'm also running anXP(1600) with the AX-7. Temp's hover around 47 C. I think it would make a lot of difference sound wise.

How about buying a 60mm/80mm adapter and putting a Panaflo L1A on it? I already have 4 Panaflo L1A fans would this still keep it cool and quiet it down?

The use of 60 to 80mm adapters has been known to increase temperatures due to the lack of airflow.

Yeah, back when I had a 1.4 Tbird I tried adding a 60/80mm adaptor to my Swiftech MCX-370. First I tried it with a Panaflo L1a and the temps went up 4-5 degrees C. It was quieter though. Then I tried a Sunon 36CFm and the temps dropped a few degrees. By the time I got my temps back down to where they were with the 60mm Pabst fan I was running a 50CFM Sunon and it was just as loud as the 60mm fan. FWIW.

Are you overclocking or do you just need a HSF that will the system non-overclocked?

I would not recommend going water cooling and I am not sure that it would help the noise level. You would have to be very careful picking out a water pump as most of the water pumps are much louder than fans.

I went ahead and bout a couple adapters with grills and screws for $12.xx shipped. The system ain't and won't be overclocked. I must have got a bad Athlon because I can only hit 1.53Ghz at 1.85v. Ain't worth it IMO. I know it aint my memory because I upped the multiplier and not the FSB. If it raises my temps 3-5c then I don't mind as long as its a bit quieter.

It seems you are going for the budget avenue...

But if you were going for performance, and hadn't already bought your stuff... thermalright slk-800s i heard are very nice... and that you can actually fit a 92 mm fan on them, even though they say only 80mm. ymmv, but that's what i heard, i personally use the ax-7s, which i had to mod a bit to fit my mobo... but they are good heatsinks.

Well I have $30 in paypal which is enough to buy a used one maybe. But I figured it wouldnt do much better than a Taisol heatsink with copper insert. Don't think it would be $30 better.

XP 1600+ (also at 1.4ghz) are $53 shipped at Newegg right now. You can sell your 'ol T-Bird to lighten the expense and go with a regular fan on the heatsink.
