I.....Uh......Er........Shit....

Don't know what's wrong with me and uh feel quite embarrassed. I thought the 8500 was a newer card like the 9600 and got confused and yes didn't do my research.....

My bad. I usually am pretty good when it comes to research and so forth. I was really tired last night. I uh......Crap......Go ahead give me shit for this. I deserve it. :p

BTW the 8500 was being offered for $50.

But uh.....Now that I have looked at the 8500 GPU line.....Which I should have before just blindly posting it.....Whoops....

Where the hell is my neuralizer.....

I usually am top of my game when it comes to this kinda stuff. I don't know why I decided to post that card without researching it. I just got lazy.........

I would just skip the power supply and go with a 4670 or a 5670 if he can wait.

Well....

Someone is selling two ATI 4850s.

An ASUS 4850 EAHTOP for $70 and a Saphhire 4850 w/ Arctic Cooling Heatsink ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835186016 ) he put on it. For $80.

I know both of these cards will need a bigger power supply. The price for these cards used is pretty good. Now to pick which one is slightly better than the other. LOL!

Might find a used power supply for cheap too.

Just browsing around various sites looking for the best bang for the buck.

This psu will run both cards for 70$ shipped.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371016

Offer him 150$ for both cards.

220$ total for a great crossfire setup not bad.
he has a Gateway pc that probably doesnt have a a mobo that supports crossfire. not to mention he has the slowest quad core on the planet that would bottleneck the heck out of two 4850s. that cpu is very slow and in games that dont use more than 2 threads would easily get beat by most older A64 X2 cpus.

I'd just pick up a Radeon 4670 and hold with that until some real upgrades can be made, more than just a PSU and video card upgrade. The 4670 will bring night and day improvement to the OP's experience and let him extend the gaming life of that machine by a good long time, if his experience with the 3200 IGP is any indication.

I missed that...

He said SLI in the original post?

You need 400W IMO to run a 4850. 4850 max draw I think is 140W? Through a quad core 125W CPU in there and 300 looks to close IMO.

4670. Your dreams of 4850 crossfire and stuff like that need to be set aside unless you want to build a whole new computer from scratch

Well got some dough to spend, gonna drop it off at the bank then either tonight or tomorrow snag a video card from like NewEgg.com

So with my system specs ( didn't get a bigger power supply ) and all the cards currently available which should I snag up? The best bang for the buck with my hardware?

The Ati X4670 still?

Thanks again for everyone's help.

Yes, the 4670 is a perfect match for your screen and your system (cpu/psu). It will do quite well for you, and at some point down the line you can start from scratch, maybe sell your current system to someone for a couple/three bills to help dilute the impact on your wallet.

Yeah until I find a better job. Or more steady.....

Plus I'm fine with my monitor & hardware......Just gaming performance. However later on it would be fun to build from scratch. I must say for what this PC is. It's quiet and fast. Which is a plus. Have no problems when it comes to loading programs. Does it in a snap. So all I need is some nice visuals and I'm good for awhile.

According to ratings......This looks like the best of the 4670s: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814161287

However: "400 Watt or greater power supply" But looking at some NewEgg reviews: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...rk=False&VendorMark=&Page=1&Keywords=300+watt

Should be fine.

At that price I'd consider spending $12 more and getting a 512MB 5670 - at 14x9 you don't really need 1GB VRAM. 4670s don't really need a dual-slot design either. For a 4670 I'd just pick up something like either of these $75 cards:
Sapphire: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102855
Gigabyte with Zalman fan: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125277

Or check the used market/craigslist.

And yes, your PS should be fine for a 4670 or 5670.

Budget is around $100....

Would the 5670 even be worth it? Or overkill?

My local Craigslist only has a 4850 for $80.

As for the others on NewEgg. As long as the cooler works great and is quiet.

Okay so just go with a 512mb 4670. Unless the 5670 is worth the extra cash?

LOL insane this is.

Ordered the SAPPHIRE 100296HDMI Radeon HD 4670 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16.

Can't wait to pop it in and enjoy some visual bliss.

So later on, I should look into a new mobo? Then cpu, power supply and go from there?

Thanks. I mean I'm glad I didn't overkill on a card and go beyond with my monitor specs and such. Then by the time I get around getting new hardware the video card I payed extra for, it's additional power was never used and now it's old.

I doubt you can change all that stuff in your Gateway. you would do better to just build or buy something new later on.

When you get your 4670 Crow, use the driver installation disc that comes with it. Don't go to the website and get the latest drivers just yet. The latest drivers that just came out(Catalyst 10.1) have a problem with the 4670. I imagine it will be fixed next month and you can update your drivers then if you wish.

You probably wouldn't have any meaningful performance gains overclocking a 4670. I recommend to avoid overclocking anything at all unless you have the money to replace it if it breaks. The 4670 is going to blow you away with how much faster it is than your IGP, I think you'll be pleased with it just at default.
